Small Changelog, Huge Changes.
And holy crap, what changes they are. I've always like AA:O and AA:SF. They kick ****. (btw for anyone wondering: "Downrange" is the name of this new version.)
For those who don't know of America's Army, its THE most realistic shooter yet, regardless of ANYTHING. Made by THE U.S. Army(not some dev- were talking THEM. So hands on with everything, providing the most real experience out there). Its perfectly free, and a recruitment tool, though it doesn't scream it in your face at all(or even say it- it just shows what you COULD do in the army). Pick it up at AmericasArmy.com, the newest version in full is 651MB(from Fileplanet- should be a unchanged version though).
But now, they've included things we've all dearly wanted:
They have started Vehicle usage, though they are still making maps to use REAL vehicles on(atm, they have a single ATV with mounted machine gun that you can use as a turret gun- fun, but not what were lookin for. That'll come soon).
Second: Weapons feel real now, don't act stupid. Recoil and muzzle climb is how it would be, and its nice.
DECAL USAGE COMPLETE! They finally show damned marks on the wall, and sparks are used great.
RAGDOLL PHYSICS have FINALLY been included! And they work great- if your still shooting when the body is falling, it reacts like it would. And none of the stupid "My back is laying on my legs" of Rainbow 6: 3. Looks great(though the twitch from all of the unreal engine is still there). And it can create some creepy moments- I was covering a buddy going up stairs through a solid concrete cieling(underground bunker, level pipeline, tunnel north area)- the enemy nailed him. I got the enemy, who hung over the edge, but my buddy wasn't so lucky- he died, on the ladder. He fell a bit before his body fell back into the ladder, and his arm cought in such a way that it hung him on the ladder. Needless to say, he hung there, the bottom of his legs just in view to swing back and forth, a gruesome reminder of his dead body.
And somehow- it just feels more polished now. It was great fun before, but now it feels good, polished, and ready for a lot of fun. I really reccommend starting up again- I sure as hell have. Even the playerbase is smarter- they use tactics, and warn you of things.
Only bads: On big servers, lots of players can bog down a non-cpu heavy system(though the lowest framrate I got was 25- it was noticeably skippier than the usual 80-120). You can't shoot behind some surfaces(such as the ladders on the side of the towers on the "Bridge" level- they jut out far enough to shoot behind, but you can't. And then a few odd lag bugs, but I'm guessing these were server related, not game related(and these carry over from other versions, so nothing new. Though they were VERY muchso noticeably less).
If anyone knows a way for a friend's list or whatever, my name is obviously(as it is everywhere but IM programs): Quaunaut. You'll have the finish quite a few "training" levels to qualify to play in some certain servers. Still haven't finished those darned SF training stages(ffs, I can think of better ways to waste my time )
Oh, and that one where you have to name the vechicles..
Its kinda sad though, when you find the parts designed to be tedious and boring less tedious and boring than the parts that are supposed to be fun.
cookie to whoever remembers their first layout (0.98 client version)
just wondering, do you say this as a speculation, or are you a shooter?

I say this as someone who has seen waaaaaay too many videos from a ol' clan buddy whos in the army now(and on the weekends goes on the base to practice- he's a damned good shot). I quote him with that. He says that while recoil's a **** on the things, the muzzleclimb is almost nonexistent.
As to those with praise for me bringing attention: Your welcome, and I'm glad to do it
As to the guy saying they've added BS: I haven't seen that once. Example?
And a special for Ashaman: Go to the website, "Your Account", and register there. Quickest way possible
Oh, you didn't see? They added it as a new weapon. It has a more official name, though. Its called the "Rocket Propelled Bovine Feces".
Note: I have absolutely no idea what I'm talking about.

Heh.
Actually, that reminds me: There DOES seem to be a wierd bug with the bibes on Pipeline of the RPG round flying and getting stuck on the pipes. Who knows- I never even GOT a RPG, so I don't even know how that'd happen...

Sadly I don't see a fix for the super-grenades that kill me even though there is a wall and 10-15 feet between me and the grenade.
For instance, you could die. In fact, you can do that quite a bit.
God, I hated that game. I poured so much work, time, and stress into qualifying for sniper training, and found out I had wasted all that work, time, and stress, because the sniper rifles were reserved for the high-honor prima donnas that are mostly good at twitching. Oh, and I could never figure out where I was supposed to be going, or what I was supposed to be doing, because nobody has time teach n00bs anything, and there's nothing built into the game to let you become more familiar with the maps. By the time I ever found any spot that might've had tactical importance, I was always dead within ten seconds anyway (literally, ten seconds) and then I had to sit through five minutes (literally, five minutes) of watching some 1337holes duke it out.
God, how I HATED that game. It's Counter-Strike++.

Well, not once have I been hit by a nade through a wall, but 10-20 feet, yes. Why? Its a FRAG GRENADE. NOT HIGH EXPLOSIVE. FRAG. That means small pieces of metal are flying THROUGH THE AIR AT 100+ MPH, thus, ripping you to shreds. Be lucky its not like real life- 40 feet is the safe distance.
As to Xect: Sorry, I've been on a few servers there, I'd use ASE if you wanna find ones though.
Bistromath: The way it is now, is much different, and has been, for 4 versions.
First off, who gets the sniper thing isn't up to Honor anymore- its on priority(so basically, if you want to be a medic, no, your not gettin Sniper. If you just wanna take reg sniper spot with nothing extra, chance goes up).
Second off, you dying in a few seconds is your fault, and the watching of "l337holes" duke it out for 5 minutes is your fault too. This is the most realistic tactical game out there- treat it like so. Don't run out there going "OMG KILL KILL!", cause you know whats gonna happen. Take your time, plan your steps, check your angles, and move with a buddy(for no reason more than he's a sandbag in the way hopefully).
I myself am usually one of the first to die or last to die in a round(if I die at all), because I take my time and check everything and use sound a lot. I dunno- just go at it slower.
i created an account
it let me log on on the site, but not in game, so i can't do anything except basic training
99%.

I've been stuck at this for the last 3 hours. I'm paused and resumed like 5 times hoping to "jumpstart it" but it just starts back off 2 megs from finish then goes back to here every time...
Edit: This is as fun as a barrel full of disease-ridden monkies.
Well, thats why ya gotta hold on! And imagine it now, with RAGDOLL!
From past experience in this game... That is the most perfect description I ever saw...
The thing I don't like about AA is that Realism >> gameplay

What is it supposed to do? It is a military simulator.
