Does Anyone Else Avoid Using Shotguns?

My opinion is that it is too overpowered because it is basicly as good at structures as the GL, and there isnt any lifeform/upgrade that it is bad against (like hmgs do 50% to structures), not to mention its annoying to be 1hit as a skulk and have hives die in 3 seconds.
Now because I have been on the reciving end of the shotgun so much and find it quite annoying, I simply avoid using it when I play marine. If I pick one up, I toss it to some LMGer (which usually yeilds a "thanks!")
Now I want to make this clear I don't want this thread to turn into a flame war and I am not complaining about the shotgun. I am just wondering if anyone else is like me in not using the shotgun. I kinda think of it like the old Knight's Code of Honor or something similar <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->

i prefer the LMG over the shotgun, more accurate and longer ranges. The only time i'll really use shotguns is against fades/onos and hive rushes.
at least a shotgun requires a fair amount of skill to use effectively.. hmg in 1.04 was essentially spray+pray stylee

I have the same problem im so tired to sg. So i don`t want to spoil everyone else`s game by taking it.
especially in combat lmg lvl3 is better if you can aim
Only place i take/like shotty is at the end when onos`s and fade`s are rushing your base. It`S not unfair against the big cow with HUGE A##!!!
And ofcourse, the shotty is instagib versus skulks, unless they have 3 hives.
And you can reload anytime with the shotty, and you can quit the reload and fire again.
Shotty sucks though on long range ofcourse.
Recent FPS and unstable ping issues make me miss about every damn shot with the shotgun. I used to be alright with a shotgun before.

Well. On average 25 rines... Possible though, as long as you dont go charging into a pack of them.
Shotties are there to be used. A skulk can take down a shottie rine; it's a mtter of playing defensive. If you run head on into a shottie-wielding marine and get splatted it's a bit much to say "he ruined my game".
I do see your point though. The SG is a bit overpowered for the measly 10 res it costs. But despite the fact that it can take all lifeforms down easily, (need larger groups for onos/fade though,) and makes light work of OCs, it has many disadvantages:
Disadvantages:
Small clip
Cant wall-corner-exploit OCs
Deals less damge after 3 seconds firing than a HMG on players
Pretty poor at long ranges
If a skulk leaps at you and you fire too soon; you're dead
In Combat, the code of honour goes out the window. I'll happily blast Focus/Cloak skulks with my shotgun without feeling guilty.
on the long range topic, it isnt too good, unless you get really lucky. i backshotted a fade that was blinking away, and it just died. i did have the help of my squadmates, who were reloading @ the time

As long as you don't use a grenade launcher in combat mode I don't care which weapon you use.
- You have to be within melee range
- You bite slower... so if you miss YOUR screwed, not the rine
- armor 1
I don't play combat much so I wasn't thinking about it when I posted, but I do often use the shotgun in combat, simply because you are fighting different aliens from in classic. (lots of upgrades, dont loose evo when dead, etc)
Trust me, I've been killed FAR too many times leaping at a marine with a shotgun to say it's the most effective method. The best way to go about killing a shotgun marine/s is to ambush them, just as a skulk should be doing. No bunny hopping, leaping, or tactical plans involved, just get behind them and you should be able to land quite a few bites on a marine/s and kill him. Leaping is best left for getting behind a line of marines and taking out the GLs/HMGs in the rear providing cover.
Call me foolish if you want, but in combat I always do dmg1, shotgun, dmg2 and dmg3 first. I'm a good shot I'm not ashamed to admit and I can usually deal with fades before I even get armour.
In a situation where it counts, where you must kill, and you must hit, and the skulks dont run in straight lines, the shotgun's "uberl33tness" is somewhat watered down.
