I'm Addicted To Natural Selection!

Quitting cold turkey until fall semester
Hey everyone,

I would just like to say, I am addicted to Natural Selection. Not only that, but I'm addicted to Half Life. Since I started the day it was released, I have been ritualistically playing it. I've been in countless clans, including one of the top ranked counterstrike clans of the day. Natural Selection has been my most favorite mod. It posessed a great mixture of stratergy with action.

However, I've been playing it too much. My real job is a Fine Artist. I create portraiture for commission, and currently applying to MICA ( http://www.mica.edu/ ), Corcoran ( http://www.corcoran.edu ), and any other schools I might consiter. To see some of my OLDER artwork of student work, you can see my first show at http://www.bidybag.com/re/modules.php?op=m...showgall&gid=12 . I would come home from school, and instead of finishing my exams I would play half life for up to eight hours at a time. I would intentionally taunt players on servers to get banned. This was my favorite, making people so **** at the stomp devour that you get banned. So, for the entire summer, I will devote my life to other things than half-life. However, if my mod somehow does find an animator, I will allow myself time to finish the map and mod.

Starting today, 2:18AM May 17th, to the day I arrive in my dorm, I will never play half-life. Pubs will no longer need to fear the name NiNjA_0Wn0Z!.

If HL2 comes out? Well, it isn't hl1 now is it

Anyhow, getting back on the "addicted to NS" topic .....

I was rediculously addicted to NS up until v1.04. Then I simply gave up playing for whatever reason. Honestly can't remember why.

It's a shame, because I used to be a damn good Skulk.

I tried getting back into it a while ago, but then realized I sold my HL cd to a friend a bit after giving up NS. I keep meaning to go out and buy another, but I become spellbound as soon as I walk into the store, and end up buying some other (newer) game.

My addiction to NS seems to crop up every few months when I don't have much else to do. I used to play for about 8 hours a day, usually with a break somewhere in there. Now I haven't played for about a month.

You wouldn't happen to be SiN who played on the old D&S or something like that server. It used to be SiD's old clan server. I'm nowhere near quitting NS.

Im sorry to say but for me quiting "cold turkey" was not hard with the release of beta 4. Theres so many other games that keep me interested. With 1.04 and 2.0 i could not stop playing NS but 3.0 changed that...
  • GWARGWAR Join Date: 2002-11-01 Member: 2297Members, Contributor
I dont play as much as I use to, through 1.0 - 1.04 I played tons, on release day for 1.0 I was playing all day despite all the problems there were with it =) I was addicted!

I dissapeared for a short time for 2.01, as my CD-key was stolen. After the 3.0 release I got a new cd-key and got back to NS

I think NS has lost a lot of its soul since 1.04 and with it went most of its addicting nature. Far too many things have been changed, and even more has been flogged with the nerf bat so hard they arent even fun anymore.

Still here, still loving it, though I do think some of the heart has been lost from NS. But I recognise this is this beta days, and that Flayra is constantly revising and innovating. The man is a genius, he stunned me with 1.00, and I keep the faith that he wont rest until this game is perfect. Some people just play games - I wish to be involved, wish to see them succeed, and there has never been a more worthy game than NS, so I keep playing through the tough times in hopes of better days to come

Same here. Normally, however I'm playing TSRP. After summer break starts, I'll be playing more NS, as I'll have time to actually finish games.

Yeah.. I became addicted with 1.04 (even with the JP HMG rushes, was fun to actually counter those).. then 2.01(d?) or something.. that is still fun even since I can't play online at the moment.. and I haven't tried 3.0 yet.. but i want to, though if any reviews can be believed.. I dont' think it will be as good untill they perfect it. ;-)
(Not saying that 1.04 or 2.01 is perfect by anymeans.. just more so then what we have now, in my opinion.)

I wish I could get addicted to NS again. No matter what I do I can't get any enjoyment out of playing it, when in 1.x it was my favourite game...hell, even 2.0.

I quit NS, and well, all videogames this past semester. It's honestly not nearly as hard as everybody says it is. Just uninstall them from your computer and don't let yourself reinstall them. You probably be pretty bored for a while, but that'll eventually pass. I didn't even have a TV to pass the time. I'm glad I did it, but I'm also glad that I have time this summer to relax and play games again.

    It's really worth it though.
