Unstoppable Fades

I consider myself to be of low to average skill as a marines so I guess that makes my point of view even more bias. For the life of me ,once a Fade gets Regen and Blink I can't ever seem to kill one. It doesnt seem to matter which weapon I use those killing machines seems to be unstoppable.

I certain theres a level of just plain not being good, but do others find this to be a problem. My ego likes to think that Fades were developed to be unstoppable killing machines that can only be stopped by a team of marines. But in combat thats not usually the case. Does anyone have any hints or tips on fighting fades?

Killing a good fade requires sneaky teamwork. Have someone hide around the corner, or behind a box next to the most likely escape route. If you are lucky enuf they will come that way and that rine wil step out and block the fades escape while unloading a clip into it.

The otherway involves a shotgun, dont start firing until it is 5 'feet' or closer, the fade has very little time to react before it is dead.

If the rine blocking has a shotgun, then u r minted

best way is to block its way out as it's been said. Hide somewhere, wait for the fade to come in. He'll start attacking him while he's in plain sight and if he can get 2 shotgun shots, that's good. As he leaves, try to have him either have a 3rd shot or empty his pistol. The ambusher finishes the fade off as it leaves.

Note that this is easier said than done...

Crouching or sidestepping a fade works for me if im on my lonesome. Timing your crouches when a fade is going for the swipe and leaves works well too.

Also remember aim low on a crouching fade (hitbox sinks into the ground), since 2.0 i have been aiming low due to the buggy hitboxes back then so i have no problem with crouching fades.

Sadly for very cautious and effective fades killing them requires more than one person.

Mines do take off some necessary damage even though they hardly die to them.

Get a group of 3 marines with a shotgun and most fades will go down. You should have level 1 or level 2 weapons by then.

.. and this shitt isnt a single case.

The Fades hitbox, afaik, does not sink into the ground (unless someone has conducted 0-grav tests or something). The model is, according to the description in the bugtracker, simply larger than the Fade.

So the way to hit a crouching Fade is to aim at his lower 60% - aiming at the **** or lower never fails. Regardless, you'll never kill a smart Fade alone (which is, by all means, a good thing) - even in groups, he can evade you forever depending on his experience. However, that shouldn't bother you - as your team stacks up firepower with a few decent Shotgunners or HMGs, he'll rarely get more than 1 Swipe in before having to leave. Hence your team advances just fine regardless, at some point you threaten a Hive, forcing him to risk it all and 9 out of 10 times he dies in the attempt to stop you.

Even this expensive Alien lifeform is always within the grasp of death - standing still for 2 LMGers, or being stuck near 1 decent Shotgunnner can mean the quick respawn ticket (which in classic means 50 res down the drain). Many new marines simply seem to be put off by the huge step up in viability between the Fade and the Skulk - making the Fade seem tons more dangerous than he is. The Skulk just really, really sucks

The easiest way to kill a good fade is to stuck him. Everything else just make nosense, you need to stuck him when he is trying to escape

Most people do not realize this but when a fade crouches his hit box is reduced from his waste down, so you can shoot at his head to no avail. But the way to get around this is to either

    A. Just aim for the waste down when shooting a fade

    or

    B. If you crouch when shooting you can hit the fade anywhere on his model and hit him.

you are correct. I'm pretty dang good and I still have trouble killing them.

This is the "invincifade" issue. Blink is too hard to use efficently as a new player, but is too dangerous when used by a skilled player.

Fades are very stong at the game start (first 5-10 mins maybe depending on the games pace) But once you have 2 heavys and some good ups and fire power they can and DO die often. Don't forget to aim befor you shoot. If you waist your clip and dont hurt the fade enuff for it to fear/run from you, its going to sit there and beat on you (or its target) Untill you reload and hit again. Aim for the thorax (right above the upper knee's)

Advice for all newbie commanders - push armor upgrades and upgrade your armory. You should have at least lvl2 armor and a few shotguns in the field when fades start popping up, then just issue your support lmg marines with welders and tell them to weld. lvl2 armor takes 3 fade swipes to kill (which is not possible to land and stay alive with a couple of shotties and lmgs shooting at him), and if fade retreats, your guys just weld themselves back to full armor while you medpack them, and then continue to their original objective. Armor2 is important because with armor1 any teamwork (fade+lerk spore or fade + skulk parasite for example) will have your marines' armor down to 2 swipe death very quickly, which are about as much as it's possible to land in that situation. I would strongly advise ignoring weapon upgrades completely until at least armor 2 is researched, armory is upgraded and a few shotties are in the field - weapon upgrades are simply worthless until it's the mid game and you fight carapaced fades with meta (they have 2nd hive). Extra weapon level lets you kill a fade in perhaps 0.5 or so seconds faster or less. Armor upgrades lets your marines live at least that much longer, and likely more (swipe has a pretty long cooldown), which means that they can deliver at least that much more damage anyway, and are far more likely to survive in the end, where weapon upgrade would have gotten your marine killed and fade out of there alive.
Also #1 thing any commander should understand - heavy weapons > weapon upgrades (when in decent hands).

Remeber - fade is only nasty as long as he feels that he can do damage. When they see your light armor marines advance without them being able to take any of them out due to armor and welding/medpacking after several passes, even the best fades tend to get nervous and eventually desperate, causing them to start making mistakes. And that's when even the best fades die.

Of course, the situation changes quite a bit if aliens get their second hive up. But we're talking early game here anyway so...

the most effective fade use is the hit and run tactic against vanilla marines. Fades crouch-blink in, swipe once or twice, crouch-blink out. Then they LOCK ON TO YOU the second time and goes in for the kill. There is really nothing you can do about it besides sticking wit hyour team so that they provide some fire power.

Yup, stick with your teammates and keep moving forward. Even if you can't kill a fade, if you push it back repeditively it ties it up for long enough that it can't really help its team. If you've got two or three shotties, just keep fire on it and it becomes very rare that it can do real damage without dying.

I can kill most fgades if i have lvl 1 shotgun, even if i'm solo. Just crouchstrafe sideways a sec before impact, they mostly miss.

My theory is that a fade has no real power per-se, they can not take out a defended base, they can not take out a defended hive, they can not stop a serious attack, all they are is bloody annoying

A fade is a small skirmishing creature, made to kill single or small groups of marines, simple fact is, once they have a fade your team can go one of 2 ways,

    A) shite themselves and run off going omg omg faddefefede! we am tbvbhj screweda!11111oneoneeleven

    B) group up and go and ignore the fade until he attacks them then waste him

Best way to get a fade is to get in close quarters. (I know that doesn't sound like a good idea but it is) And at the same time have Shotties preferably Lvl 3. Also want to have a group of 3 or more. Definitely at least one guy hiding to block his escape. I can't take down a fade all by myself but I can get almost always around 8 shotty blasts into him. Usually no more than that. By than I am dead and my teammates kill him in a few seconds later. In combat that pisses me off and in ns it makes me mad since I don't get any kill score. Crouch, Jump and move around is the way I stay alive long enough to get those blasts in, after the first couple blasts the fade decides that I am a threat and I get to dance with him.

Open areas, that is the best place to kill a fade. Get into the open, get a shotgun and circle strafe while jumping backwards while keeping the fade in your crosshairs. It will make it EXTREAMLY hard from them to hit you.

Keep in mind that everyone develops their own methods. For example my brother and I play almost always together, we are at matched skill levels and yet we have COMPLETELY different styles/tactics/weapon choices. This goes to show that it is time and practice that makes a big difference not necessarily tactics. IMO tactics are developed through time and experience.

However, good advice from good players definitely doesn’t hurt.

    Josh

Best place to kill a fade is a small corridor and a shotty + lmg. You'll never kill a good fade with a shotgun in an open room...

Btw, ducking fades' hit boxes ARE NOT reduced to their waists down when they crouche but something else causes you to miss... i know this becaue if the marine crouches aswell, everything on the fade to his head becomes fair game again... im not sure why ducking marines would cause this but however it can be determined that the hixbox didn't shrink

    edit: spelling

4 already almost kills a fade without carapace(leaves 24hp without cara at all..), 4 is enough for non-cara fade.
