    hmmm....
    if you were to make a map like that, you could have a Carrier Ship, hovering above the battlefield, with lifpods in the ground....
    you could then set the lifepods to spawn points....

    Thats not the actual one though, but it is very close. I used to use that one.

    The Warthogs could have stationary turrets built for whatever map they're in. NS is lacking big guns.

    Maybe a couple rocket turrets. Hou-ah.

    A skybox with a burning warship above might be fun. With escape pods literring the ground, some exploded, some infected, some intact.

    Just for fun, here's part of the Longsword fighter. It's 6600 polies, so kinda out of the question for NS. Most of that is interior detail however, and could be removed if needed. But it just looks soooo cool. It's partially textured, the wings are done on both sides, the engines are done and some of the interior consoles are done, but there's a crapload left to do. These are the default textures BTW.

    Very end, when the MC is escaping the Pillar of August. He flies one of these off of it just as it explodes. It's also supposed to be in Halo 2, as a fighter/bomber, possibly controlable.

    And, yes, the Longsword is the UNSC's standard fleet fighter/bomber, armed with a 120mm chaingun (the books contradict themselves between 110 and 120 millimeters, so I'll take the bigger one), and a crapload of missiles, bombs, mines, nukes, you name it.

    The Warthog I posted is a rip, so the skinmesh is the game skin- all I had to do was tweak the errors that it accumulated from format transitions (heh.. ALL... took about two hours to fix all the skins), then set it up for T2. So, unfortunately, I can't really help with how to skinmesh it. I have many of the Halo models in Max 5 format, but I only have 4.2, and they are not meshed or textured, AFAIK...
