and stupid names
I really wish the fast-food industry would keep the names of their foods simple. Trying to be "catchy" only makes the customer uncomfortable when trying to order. For example:

Man: Hi... I'd like... uh... a... ahem. I'll take the... smilingcrispychickensandwhich. Make it large with a coke.
Cashier: Sir, could you speak louder?
Man: I'll take a... *eyeroll* smiling... crispy... chicken sandwhich. Make it large with a coke.
Cashier: Sir, you'll have to speak louder than that.
Man: I'LL TAKE A SMILING CRISPY CHICKEN SANDWHICH. MAKE IT LARGE WITH A COKE. ARE YOU HAPPY!?
Cashier: So a smiling crispy chicken sandwhich... happy sized.
Man: No, large.
Cashier: We only have happy-sized and EXCITED-sized, sir.
Man: Augh! Fine, make it happy.
Cashier: What would you like as a side order?
Man: Fries.
Cashier: We have smiling sticks and laughing chips.
Man: ... You know what? Forget it. Just give me a number three with a coke.
Cashier: Would you like to make it happy or excited?
Man: *drives off*
Cashier: Sir? Are you there?

Huh? I haven't heard of any fastfood with ridiculous names lately. Unless "Double Quarter Pounder" is your idea of silly.

Heh I wouldn't know, I either buy food from the supermarket or go out. Never drive-thru, they smell.

I would eat anywhere where they sold smiling sticks. That sounds like about the most fun-tastic food ever.

What can I say, they had the saltiest french fries within a 5 mile radius. I got a thing for salt.
  • CommunistWithAGunCommunistWithAGun Local Propaganda Guy Join Date: 2003-04-30 Member: 15953Members
I prefer burger king because you can actually taste potatoe in their fries still.

They actually SALT the chips around your area?

    Wow.

We get soooo gibbed here in Aus, the only places you can get salted chips is from local shops. Thankfully, those local shops beat the living pance of Maccas and thus I'm able to circumvent the Macdonalds diet entirely, going to a saltier, healthier, and ultimately less demeaning diet.

But personally, I feel sorry for the folks that WORK there. Not the managers, just the people doing their job. They must either be depserate enough to want to work there or are getting paid a helluva lot to put up with it. The McDonalds in town pays quite a good rate, but I wouldn't work there for double it :/ (I live in the UK, I don't know what the pay's like in the US)

Just my .02, as an employee of one of those "evul" Fast food places (Hey, call'em Quick Service Restaurants, dangit!), it's not that they want to make everything "unique." Just the opposite is the problem I have working at Burger King. Only TWO (TWO!!!!) Chicken products we sell do not contain the word Crisp somewhere. The chicken nugget/strip variant at Burger King? Oh yeah, it's a crispy chicken tender.

Then we have the sandwich, the TenderCrisp. What about the Spicy Tendercrisp? Or what about the other Chicken sandwich? Yeah, it's got crisp in there somewhere, and I haven't figured out where, exactly, and I catch hell because of it.

So, for the sake of BK employees out there, just order your fries, take an Icee, and stick to the whoppers. Thanks. (I'm kidding, by the way)

    **cough**
Compared to the other places that I could work in this little area of the UK McDonalds is probably the best employer.

    And I work for them.

And no I am not working there because I have to I just like having money, and with University looming, I'm gonna need a lot.....

-EDIT- Oh and the fringe benefits are nice..... -EDIT-

Meh the managers aint bad neither are the employees... sometimes (We got some hot girls that work at the one near my house!)anyhow, it's the MCD's HQ (or whatever) that manages what the things are named, and I doubt they'd name their products like that if it weren't for their already being sandwhiches like that at different restaurants named it. Like Chicken Sandwhich, 3 restaurants have that as the name...whats the point of eating at another place? It's all psychological.

According to that logic, nobody would be eating fries, drinking Coke, or gobbling hamburgers at MDs...

Here in Dundee (the one in Scotland) you can regularly see people go in to McDonalds, ignore all the adverts for stuff like Super-Sized French Fries, and say, "Gie's a burger an a wee poke o' chips", to which the reply is usually, "Are ye eatin' here or gaun oot?"

Also, at http://www.i-am-asian.com/trivia/ it says, "The oldest structure to house a McDonald's restaurant is located in Shrewsbury, England. One of the restaurant's exterior walls dates back to the thirteenth century." - I find that rether saddening myself.

If you were in Japan and you wanted rice, would you go to McDonalds? Only once for the novelty of it I hope.

They don't in the UK, but I'm pretty sure you get McBier (or whatever) in Germany and I'd assume McDonalds beer would suck but on the other hand Germany has laws about beer quality...

When I first went to McDonalds (about 10 years ago) they didn't sell Coca-Cola or any other brand name soft drinks, you only got foul McCola or something. You can get Coke now though.

I bet Scotland is the only country where you can get Irn-Bru in McDonalds. There was an American girl at my school who described all Scottish soft drinks as "toxically sweet" -hey, at least chocolate doesn't suck here.

Quite right. Where I live we have our share of McDonalds and Burger Kings, and in the last year KFC have moved in, but if you you want ice-cream (or fish & chips) you still go to small family-run places. Hurrah!
