The Thief series. Players can choose to be either a thief or a law-abider, hiring guards and laying traps in a fortress or home or buying tools and training skills to invade those same fortresses or homes. A slow game, to be sure, but a fun one. Think of the potential! Alliances between thieves, rival guilds, treachery, suspense, it's got it all!
Man, now I really want to see that game happen. Wonder if that would work as a HL2 mod of some sort...
"Until now we scraped along the ground like rats, but from now on we soar... like eagles.... like eagles on pogosticks!" -- Glottis
Hrm... let's see. I've always wanted to see a massive (and I mean really massive) Diablo 2-type MMORPG. More like Arcanum, really. Huge opposing armies. Would be kind of horribly carnage-filled, though. People would get annoyed.
Or maybe DragonLance, only as a game and you can be... a derro? Eee... or something.
EDIT: Morrowind seems as though it would be nice as a MMORPG, but unfortunately I can't help thinking that unless there are level restrictions or something, the poor smaller levels will be horribly owned by higher thief/mage or thief/fighter types, probably the latter. I mean... you can sneak around behind people and steal everything they have. Bit overpowered against others. Realistic, I guess, but... eh.
Moving around the Caribbean. You can get your own crew and attack ports with rubber chickens! Or be the governor of an island, being voted byy the people. Imagine it!!
Biohazard as an MMORPG... I mean, it'd have to be a HUGE environment to keep the apocalyptic feel, I guess, but still... that's what I'd like to see. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif' /><!--endemo-->

Then again, I kindof know all the RE games by heart (except, no gamecube...and I've forgotten how to do the RE Plant 42 formula...), so maybe it would apply to people who just want to try and survive in a big zombie infested city.

fallout 2 mmorpg would be nice... multiply the world by a few sizes, add a few hundred items/weapons, some more skill classes.. etc.. fun fun.
another game that would pwn as mmorpg... stalker. MMOFPRPG. multiply the world a few sizes, add more weapons and stuff, and then add a skill tree / stats.
I would kill to have an mmo based on Freelancer/Freespace2/UniversalCombat, or any of those types of games that allows me to travel from system to system, with literally no end to the assortment of tasks I can carry out. I'd also take elements from UC and expand upon them; massively populated systems with NPCs numbering in the hundreds of thousands, cities populated by billions of virtual citizens... I've actually been working on a concept like this for a while, but that's a discussion for another time.

System Shock! Fallout! Command & Conquer - Imagine the world domination mode but REAL time in stead of silly who won the most that day.
Skies of Arcadia MMORPG. Not only would there be your standard party-based gameplay, but the chance to purchase your own airship and outfit it with a crew of other players. Ally yourself with one of the world's countries and join massive PvP battles, or go freelance as a trader, explorer, even pirate.

my first thought was system shock aswell, but i would probly get too addicted to that and sleep in my lunch brakes at work (like some korean dude who died cuz of playing too much diablo2 online)
soul calibur2 would be nice I think, with big areas (temples caves and stuff) where u have to fight npcs/eachother and collect weapons and stuff, the ultimate goal would be finding soul edge.
Would love to see a Necromunda MMORPG, the world is already created, loads of action, trading, item creation, a massive universe to get events from. Would be great.
How about a MMORPG inspired by 80's music! You could play as ABBA!
Or how about a variation on SWG's? Ewok online, you happily live your lives collecting leaves and skipping and every so often a massive gun battle erupts in the middle of your village and all you have to defend yourself with is a few rocks... the bad guys wander off and you then rebuild your homes (with the leaves you collected... maybe rocks as well) and start again
Just do my second idea <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif' /><!--endemo-->
Besides half of the ideas already posted (I like Marik's idea in particular) I'd like to see a Grand Theft Auto MMORPG. Do what you wish. Be a taxi driver, fireman, compete with other people over "special tasks" by local crime lords, work together even. That's just a few ideas.

Athena, I don't think RE would be to great as a MMORPG.
