I'd really like to congradulate the dev team on this awesome and semi-quick release.
This has been the single redeeming factor for me.... it shows that you guys do listen and aren't too 'out of touch' with the community.

It looks like they can't nerf it anymore , it went down from 5/6 absorbed to 1/2 , can't be any lower or umbra would only be used as a nifty decoration.
Once again , they boosted skill weapons and nerfed teamplay.
The umbra change is really the only thing of this I dont like.
but now it is skrwd...
it cant be used like it was before...
a lerk with umbra and focus could take down a hvy solo
i could take out about 30 people per a death as a lerk because of umbra in combat.... the Lerk flight cost energy again...BOOOO
but it was totally needed. time to get adrin as first thing again...

used to be 3/4, but in 2.0, it was brought down to 1/3 (due to a bug - it was supposed to be 2/3). In 3.0 it came back to 2/3, but that turned out to be too strong <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif' /><!--endemo-->. I'm glad umbra was nerfed, umbra really sucks for marines, especially the stronger units.

I dont see why they cant increase cooldown/energy drain for umbra to stop it from being spammed to follow target friendly.
I guess in the long run, it doesnt matter that much. I dont even remember the last time someone other than myself used umbra to help others..
I love how focus costs 2 in combat now. It is so much stronger than a shotgun. I mean think about it, you can kill skulks in one hit with a shotgun before they even come near you. The attack rate of a shotgun is faster than focus. (Great reasoning for the guy who thought that one up)

The biggest imbalance in this game is the skill of the players. These are the fools who think we should make the fade weaker because commander doesn't drop any weapons. I'm sorry for the flaming but damn WTH are they doing to this game?
This game <b>WAS</b> based on teamwork, but in every complaint on balance you see its never "we were working together" and so and so killed us all. Or "our commander gave us medpacks heavies and upgraded" and we got pwned.
Notice how most of the the complaints are from the guys who go marine the majority of the time.
The point of the matter is you guys are nerfing buffing all these game features when all that is really needed is team <b>skill</b> balance. Hey if someone is good with a certain weapon you shouldnt release a damn patch just so he can be lowered to the skill of everyone else.
And you know what people are going to say?

Charge (way too weak. It is a third hive ability. Costs 2 points or 3 hives, and no one uses it because it sucks)
Focus 2 points. If focus is going to be 2 points, apply the added damage to other abilities, or make it more powerfull. Shotgun is only 1 point. And damn if that ain't a skulk-gorge-lerk-fade killer.
I have nothing against focus being 2 points. But anytime after 5 minutes in the game, it loses its edge, and you need it to simply be at the same level as the marines (you ain't better then them, but it closes their superiority gap)
Anyways, just my opinion. BTW.. DO NOT NERF shottie, it is good how it is. Powerfull and fun. But make focus better, and fix charge. Also fix LADDER BUG

This post is regarding the combat side of the game, as i have not had chance to fully test the normal NS.
1st of all.. Thank god you got rid of Beta4... it sucked bigstyle, the new beta4a is much better, ive just played it for 6 hours straight and i didnt need to replace or repair and computer parts this time <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif' /><!--endemo--> .
Alot of people are complaining about the 10 minute limit on marines, even though it is changeable, most people that host a server cant be bothered to change server side settings. imo it would be much better with 20 minutes as just 10 minutes makes the game very rushed for marines, and the aliens tend to get into the ideo of camping the 10mins out for an easy win. In the 6 hours i played i didnt see 1 marine make it to level 10.
also... just a suggestion, but if i were editing this game, id get rid of the oni's devour and scrap the granade launcher, both these weapons are the cause of 50% of all arguments and bitchiness. the other 50% goes to Spawnkilling, i would put a 2 or 3 second immunity on all spawns, so at least it gives you time to get your bearings before you have to remove a focused skulk from your jaxie.
As i said this is my oppinion, as i feel that i have to post something after the last couple of.. erm shall i say.. nerfed patches (and i know they are only beta patches, but the last 1 was so far off it actually pained me to play it.) so please feel free to post your coments, or even expand on what ive had to say.
Maybe thats the point? Adrenaline is still useful for constant spore/umbra/primal use, but flying should be a natural thing for a lerk.
Of course, if the devs had listened to what YOU wanted, everything would be perfect. Heck I bet you could do the job by yourself; code the game, test the game, everything. Flayra who, we got Omnifire!
No seriously, was moving focus from costing one point to two that big a hit to teamplay? Was reinstating an energy cost to lerk flapping to prevent pancaking? How in god's name is decreasing the effectiveness of umbra reducing the importance of teamwork. If anything it promotes teamwork cause that onos has got to be umbra'ed every second for it to matter at all.
I do believe these are the only changes that really matter...what were you upset about again? That the game isn't based on teamwork anymore? Yeah...how the hell did you pull that statement out of these changes.

Note even thinking for a second about balance...yes because the fact that two major issues with alien superiority in Combat - pancaking and early focus - were solved means that the dev team obviously doesn't give a carp about balance.

The focus thing... I'm not sure how to react to this. I understand the whole focus deal at the start of a match, and the kind of similarities to the shotgun in points(2 for Focus) (1 wep. upgrade - 1 Shotgun), but it does make marines not want to get that early armor point, usually giving the upgrade to more damage, instead. This makes it a lot of fun if you do get focus early, but makes it incredably hard to get to the marines with level 2 shotgun. What helps with this is getting Cloaking, but thats 3 points to sneak up on a marine when you could get Fade. What am I talking about? I don't know. Game is fun. Time is late. I am tired.

also my thoughts on focus.
i never got that early armor point. i went straight for shotgun, then resupply. after that i get armor. i have never had a problem with focus. if a skulk is good enough to get past your gun, then you deserve to die. and on the matter of them coming up behind you, use teamwork.
