The idea of this map is to teach the aliens that you cant just have lvl 10 skulks . It will need support of lerk , onos , fade well.. almost everything.
Marine start is almost done.
Going to start working on all the surrounding mountains and debris.
The cave vents are there to give acces to multiple lerks dropping down over ms and i gave the marines a weldable tunnel.

The marines start and most of the mountains where completed but i had some nasty virus infection and after that everything crashed so im starting it all up from a early version of the marine spawn and trying to build it up again.
Im so glad somebody is actually doing this. I am so sick of reading 2 years of posts about how if somebody makes an outdoor map for natural selection then it will never become official, and so it should NEVER be done. And in all that time I have yet to see more than 5 or so outdoor maps, with ns_surface being a rather good one.
Anyway, I havent seen starship troopers in a long time, but i seem to recall a cave coming up into the marine fort from underneath. Is this going to be implemented? Maybe it can have a door that needs to be welded open right at the marine base. The cave could lead directly to the alien hive to provide an incentive for the marines to open it.
A few more suggestions.
Make sure there are plenty of rocks and stuff for skulks to hide behind on the way up to the marine fort. Or have caves coming from all directions so its harder to watch them all at once. Thats one of the reasons an underground tunnel into the base would be useful. It provides an easier way to get there without being shot to ribbons from a mile away.. and the standard problem of skulks on the skybox, i know i have been on a few maps where they fall right off. maybe a damaging force field on it would work.
This would also make a really awesome standard map. Is it easy to convert a combat map to standard?

Here's one thing that you can take note of (I didn't know you were making this when I first wrote it). I just wrote this at the top of my head, but you can use it for inspiration (both to finish and for ideas). I support your map!!!
It had a few bugs with onos getting stuck in lots of places and the allien half of the map was pritty lame with about 5 square rooms. It was also a very JP / lerk friendly map. It was a very bad idea to go onos or have HA....
Where currently editing/remaking the map. Adding proper caves and fiddling with marine start. Im doing the aliens caves and am having a little trouble <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif' /><!--endemo-->
Afr, if theirs any advise you can give me on how to build rock faces like those.. Can u pls tell me, also did u use gensoft to build it and then edit it in Hammer??
'ns_surface being a rather good one' ?? have you actually played it in 3.0? it may be ok in a scrim, but in a pub, most of the people are screwing about with the elevator in the rr, and those who are playing, are disgruntled aliens and trigger happy rines
Spam, anyways, it thread is dead! Not to be mean, the map is at a loss, i was in love with the map. I hate ppls. Viruses suck so bad. I feel like im going to cry. Maby Afr would like some help. Im of no use i cant do the map thing, but maby sum1 else can?
