I was watching the movie again , the scene where the marine outpost in the desert gets attacked from the aliens coming from the caves.. so i wanted to do a similay map for ns. Made a little basic mountain just playing around.
I would like the help from other mappers to try and make a good map out of it. Just tell me if you are interested.

Good vertex editing though, if a little over-detailed.
This was just a modell for how i would like it to be.
If this is a serious attempt on making it a playable map then be sure to read <b><a href='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=62266' target='_blank'>Ns Outdoor Mapping Guidelines/rules</a></b> To make it work better with ns. This wide open outside area needs lot's of attention.
You got one less problem to worry about and thats the commander view since it's a combat map.
What are the r_speeds btw on that passage, btw?

Because mostly i dont have the time or willpower to complete a map <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->.
Looks nice but the textures.... burn, looks like a CS map with those textures.
the rule is to keep the w-poly beneath 700 btw. with an overall of 500.
This can be attainded when you use less brushes. Lessen the detail on the rocks. That should work.
and change the textures please <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif' /><!--endemo-->
Also, it would appear (Although it's hard to see with that many brushes) that you have a great deal going to waste also.
keep up the work.
And: Have you covered all the other faces with NULL texture exept the ones you can see?
You just create your map in it and then all you have left is 5-15 min of editing to make the rocks look nice.
I will look throught it now and see how much i can take away and edit to make it better.
If you watch the film it is really rocky and theirs lots of bolders around,
their are also ledges.
And as someone said earlier, aliens will need lots of cover of their gonna be slaughtered.
I wish someone would re-did Wisky. That was a nice map, simple but nice.
But it could have been made a lot better, such as the tunnels being enclosed.
And a large hole/tunnel in the floor at the back of the camp for aliens to get inside.
Anyway thats going off topic...
I sugest you consentrate on that main area, if you cant get that below 700-800 r-speed or get some nice texture then their not much poijnt doing the rest unless you can think of somthing to have their.
If you can get this done.... then id be speachless.

If so a smaller copy of it will be right behind where the screenshots are taken from.
And the other places are crawling up and down around 500-550.
Be sure you think of something for the sky so Skulks can't walk on it, block their path or something, since that's your next problem...
And add some more cover for the aliens...
Any minute now I expect to see Gordon Freeman rolling in the sand, soaking the sun up while singing " lalalalalala"

New textures
Marine Base layouts completed
Cave hive almost done
Middle base (layouts)
I changed the map so that it is completely surrounded by mountains.
In the middle there is an abandoned marine outpost that is the important thing in this map. Its all about controlling that base.
At the far sides you have the marine base and the hive and in the middle you have the abandoned outpost. To get to that outpost you can travel along the main big road or the caves and tunnels.

Are you talking about world models ? I will try to make / find some good ones then.
But dont expect the map to be great , its only a funmap <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->
