    I've seen a server with 128 players max. What does that mean?

    okay hl2 has made it so its possible to drive cars by becomeing that as a player hence you cant drive the car you are the car.
    and in the vid it doesnt prov you drive the car but you shoot out of it.

    you can mod a flamethrower but there isnt one in the game, good particle effectes thou.

    okay the 32 player limit is for the hl2 engine its can be chaged in preference like 128 in day of defeat, but i have know clue in hl2 cause they are not aloud to say anything about there multiplayer.

    Personally I think HL2 should detect the type of modem and incorporate a machine limit. There is nothing more painful than a large amount of players on an average server. Also Jaboo, I never knew we were graced by a Valve team member at these boards. You are obviously with Valve since you state all of this information without references, and no one would try to have a valid arguement about a game with no references.

    i dont work at valve i always keep there news thou get there 10 minet long interviews on gamespot.com it clearly states that they cannot release stuff on multiplay.
    also in there ingame movie they prove nothing like driving they show you can shoot but it could be a bot driiving you.

    It's possible, it's being done in a MMORPG for HL engine called "Quest". I've never programmed from the HL SDK (nor C++), only the .NET Framework (C#), so I can only explain it by hunting down the information they posted about it. Here's something from the FAQ.

    <!--QuoteBegin--></div><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin-->How will you make a MMORPG in the HL engine? I mean 32 peeps a server is max right?

    Yes 32 is max in HL, however, this barrier can be broken to reach 128.<!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->

    Yet in their forums they explain it this way:
    <!--QuoteBegin--></div><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin-->No. I mentioned that theoretically it is possible for two servers to keep each other updated on the locations of the players and what they're doing, and thus for it to appear as though it's a 64 person server. (And of course this could be scaled to 96, 128, etc.)<!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->
    I'm not Valve nor am I the mod coders who did such things. I don't know how they did it -- but it was unintended by Valve.

    Jaboo, the beta and a portion of source code was leaked. Just take it to heart that there are people who have played and seen both of these. Who might know what they are talking about. <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif' /><!--endemo--> Trust me, you can drive the cars and you can get out of them and shoot them.

    So you have played it or your freind or some guy on the net?

    and from what i know the beta is really bad for gameplay, and has many glitches and is slightly scripted(read on a forum)

    and the beta has no multiplay

    In conclusion (we have know clue about hl2 multi-play ither than it can be changed cause valve is releasing several programs that will let you alter the gameplay in the sdk)

    Anywaise it makes me sick that people have the hl2 beta

    I dont want to argue on this forum so if you really have a bad bone with me add me to your msn (jaboo224@hotmail.com).
    I think it is imature to continue this arguement while people are reading along with us.

    I have no intentions on carrying on this argument. The four things that person stated have been proven to be true.

    Drivable cars that aren't scripted, beyond 32 maximum player limit (though only intended for specific mods), volumetric fire permitting a flamethrower, and realistic physics due to the Havok 2.0 physics engine.

    I feel there is nothing to continue on about.

    Anyone else feel nostalgic hearing him talking about his crappy old 64MB graphics card? <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif' /><!--endemo--> Back in the old days, my GPU had no GPU!...ect.

    Who knows what will happen in the next few years, but I'm pritty sure the HL1 engine will be phased out regarless of what happens.

    If you feel you were carrying on an intelligible debate/argument with jaboo, you're dead wrong. All it took was a screenshot (from inside HL2, obviously) with a polite reply to stop PMing me arguments about something he apparently wasn't as well versed on the topic of discussion as he seemed to think he was.

    His final reply on the matter:
    <!--QuoteBegin--></div><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin-->Know what your a freaking **** you ****. playing the beta know what **** U you people ruine games you **** wad why dont you crawl up a hole and freaking die you **** sucker.<!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->

    You have two extremes...

    anything made by iD software or (performance at the cost of compatibility)

    windows (compatibility at the cost of performance)

    It's quite simple. As time goes by, you creep closer to only being able to run only the most compatible programs. If you aren't a spoiled rich kid or you go to college, then you understand that things cost money. You understand this even better if you have had to earn the money to buy things for your computer. Makes it all the more tempting to say "Why the hell did I work so hard for this accessory to my computer? I should save it."

    I'm getting old.
