matrix -> slow..bulky..huge not very intuitive to use... and not very realistic

appleseed landmate-> small..light, and just to wear like a suit.. i think a landmate would be the better solution, because its able to imitate your natural movements.. and the thing with the ripping off the master arms.. i think you would not even be able to get as close to rip them off. this armor is designed for high risk entry operations, against medium sized calibers, explosives, shrapnels, and not for close combat or against heavy cannons.
but even in close combat with the right training you can avoid, even dodge attacks aimed for ripping off your master arms. you even can use limited martial arts in this thing ,because its just copying your normal movements.
the edm servo amplification makes you feel like wearing a lil bit heavier combat gear.
the "landmate" principe is very plausible, the army is researching on several fields of servo amplification.. the darpa created some prototypes based on the landmate principe... but the lack of a power source stopped the project... appleseed is "plausible" science fiction... and not eyecandy fiction like matrix.

damnit i typed up a long post and then opera crashed :|

anyway,

the robotic leg system seems very wierd to me. Whereas the arms are free to move independent of the robotic arms (which follow the real arms), the legs are incorporated INSIDE the robotic legs. Seems like it would be very hard to have a working leg model for that suit.
Like you would lift your right leg, but encounter resistance (your leg is tied down). Then your body would put more force into the leg (because you're trying to work against the restraint) and then the robotic leg overreacts and goes flying up. I think that if a joint was to copy movement data from sensors, the sensors would have to be freemoving ...

Also, it's much easier to move the leg from farther away from its axis of rotation... so if something hit the robotic leg with great force, the human leg inside would be moved along with the robot leg... *crack*

anyway, its a sweet model.

you think way to complicated...

the pilot in the landmate have to wear a datasuit, a thin layer of electrode material, that can "feel" the electric impulses in the muscles of the pilot.

when the pilot wants to lift his leg, his brain is sending electric impulses to his muscles in his legs, the datasuit catches this signal, sending it to the motion coordination system in the landmate, so the landmate will lift his leg with nearly no delay.
on the arms the pilot have to wear a feedback system , wich is also equipped with sensors to register body electricity, so he can feel the force he is givin with his master device to the slave hands.

heres a lil crappy doodled movement study about the leg in the legframe.
because the leg is on the inner side of the frame, theres enough space for edms, servos, and gyros

i have to tweak the scale of the final model a little bit to get it like that...

Very nice, if it can fit into an ns map, what type of arms and visor you gonna have? and mounted mini guns or anything?

Heres an idea, on the front of the armour have a small scanner sweeper thing.. that spins around like an alien detector.

LOL, renderes dont support rendering of NURBS. They get converted to polys for rendering. ;p anyhow, who said it was made with nurbs? /me wants to know
• BlackPantherBlackPanther Join Date: 2002-02-11 Member: 197Members
Sheena herself said it was made with Nurbs.
I never got into high poly models myself... maybe i should, but im too much of a "neat-freak-who-loves-to-see-each-and-every-one-of-his-polys-serve-a-purpose" kinda modeler... if you know what i'm saying

The only high poly model i did was a 100 k poly apache which took me 6 damn months. Oy.

Great work Sheena!
Very nice rendition of the anime style.
