<span style='font-size:8pt;line-height:100%'>Noob question, but is there any way to scan or check for blockscripts 0 servers aside from joining and seeing if the button does anything?

Or do you just mean the bind? Writing out "exec wftevr.cfg" in console is no problem if that's the case.

As for the knife, statistically, I think it's actually a significant chunk of damage, like 30 or so. I think somewhere it equates out into three knifes equal a dead vanilla skulk, from full health. tbh, I've considered looking into the plausability of writing a push-button script that would pull the knife out when the button went down, attacked, then lastinved back to the previous gun. Unfortunately, I don't understand the code enough to attempt it, so it's just fantasy.

I trust the LMG far more than the pistol. The pistol has it's uses, but it isn't a multi-role tool like the LMG. It's a quickdraw weapon that fires the second it's out of the holster, and it's pinpoint accuracy gives it a place for sniping at wounded prey, but you have to reload it SO OFTEN. Plus you can only carry 30 spare rounds. Think of it as a Deagle. It's a nice little gun, but why would you run around with it out if you had an MP5 along with you too? Please pardon the shameless CS analogy, I felt it fit.

If you really trust your timing and dodging abilities as a marine, then feel free to use the knife as a viable skulk killing tool as well. Really, if you believe in the true power of the knife, you'd know that the LMG and pistol are only really around to thin a crowd of skulks down to one, so you don't have to keep track of multiple skulks biting at you while you cut them to ribbons (with generous medspam support of course).</span>

Bizarrely, knife use is more psychological than you'd think.

First thing I'd suggest is change your knife model to one of the customs, either the TSA knife or the lead pipe.

99% of the time, knife users arent' aggresive with it, and that's why they die. You need to make the skulk/whatever realise 'Oh poop, I'm gonna <b>lose</b>!' Don't back off, and whatever you do don't <i>duck in a corner</i>. It doesn't work, and just gives an easy kill.

The reason I suggest changing the model is because the bigger model actually encourages you to run in a bit more. My holding record is still 19 in a 20 minute round, and I'm pretty proud of that. (Waves to Dirty Harry Potter, who got it no less than 3 occasions!)

Oh, and bizarrely the pistol is far more use if you meet a skulk sub 3 metres, because you can deal that damage A) Faster and B) To the skulk as he lines up for his 'attack run'

    Just my 2c.

Personally I usually use the pistol when the skulk is a ways away and I want to eat some of his health down so that when he bunny hops in close I can kill him quick with the lmg. I also only ever get 3 skulks to a lmg clip and 1 a pistol but if you use them both together at the start you can effectively kill more skulks with your default loadout. I suck too so this might not be the best way of going about it.

Yeah, the lmg sucks compared to the pistol, hell the rines should get 2 pistols instead of lmgs cause the lmgs suck so bad

And I mean it guys, I'm not being saercasetic or neting

    rely

I mean, even though the pistol kills slower CQB, it's still better, cause, damn, it's a pistol

The pistol is better at a distance, but so what? How often are you fighting outside of CQB? The skulks are the one's who choose the fights, and unless you play on completely newb (and I mean, REALLY bad players, even a basic player will learn after a few deaths not to charge a marine)

The accuracy thing is just a little ace in the hole which makes it better than the LMG in a certain way, to fill a niche per se. But overall, the LMG is better most of the time, because of the fact that it deals much more total damage, reloads just as fast, and it's ease of use.

Also, try to remember how I'm posting the stats, in response to all of the people who are claiming it's overpowered. <!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->

Well, let's see, even a skulk will be caught out in the open in the retreat, as someone else already said. Not to mention that even WITH the skulk at CQB, I find it just as well to use the pistol. It fires fast, and its accuracy is dead on.

I play CS too, and the NS pistol is insanely easy to use. Too bad it doesn't allow headshots. <!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->
Ugh. You should really be shot in the head for that damn comment about the headshot. Combat is already to close to CS for me.

On an unrelated note, I need to know if there's any way to switch-up cfgs while still on a server, because I'd love to write one for aliens and one for marines.  I dont need to have jump bound to mousewheel if I intend on playing rines, nor fire bound to Mwheel if I plan on playing aliens.  That or I need a mouse with two scroll wheels.  Which would be totally awesome.</span> <!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->
    there is

So now you ask how do i make a config for each race? That's what i am going to explain.

First you need to make 2 files, one called Alien.cfg and one called Marine.cfg place them into your NS folder.
Next you do is to setup how to change them, that could be done like this.

    QUOTE

    bind "F1" "jointeamone;exec marine.cfg;echo Marine config loaded."
    bind "F2" "jointeamtwo;exec alien.cfg;echo Alien config loaded."

place this in the configs you just made.(Alien.cfg and Marine.cfg)

Now explaining what the command does.

Bind is the command to bind a key to a command, eg. bind "x" "impulse 3"
This would make you drop your current weapon (Marine's only)
There would be no reason to have this bind for the Aliens.cfg so put it into the Marine.cfg

The next in the bind command is the key you want to bind eg. Bind "c" "+showscores"
This command would make c show the scores, this is usally binded to tab by defult.

Now the next is the actully command it self, there are tons of commands to use.(a start to learn is to look at your config.cfg in your NS folder)
eg. Bind "v" "impulse 100" would bind v to make your flashlight turn on/off.

Now lets look at the config changer bind again.

    QUOTE

    bind "F1" "jointeamone;exec marine.cfg;echo Marine config loaded."
    bind "F2" "jointeamtwo;exec alien.cfg;echo Alien config loaded."

This will bind F1 and F2 to change your config's. (If your F1 key makes a small yellow box open in the top window of the screen this means that you have to rename two .dll files in your valve folder. #Halflife-dir\valve\cl_dlls\ the files that isnt client.dll, rename them to something else(my is called 1 and 2, but you can also delete them)

Now jointeamone and jointeamtwo makes you join either Marines (one) or Aliens (two). But you could also make a bind for jointeamthree (spetectors)

The exec command orders halflife to execute the file writen after the exec command (in this case it is Aliens.cfg)
The Alien.cfg thats where you customized all your alien only binds.

The echo command makes half-life echo this to the console. (this is just a confirmation)

I hope this helps alot, remember that half-life is case sentive sometimes. (i dont know excacly when?)

EDIT: For steam users (3.0bx) use NSP folder in your steam\steamaps\email\halflife\nsp
Warning! not all servers alow exec command.

Pistol is fine. So you get capped by someone with good aim, that's your fault for running in a straight line, sitting in a vent while not paying attention, or failing to see that marine while you hang on the ceiling.

If I can't kill two skulks with my LMG and only manage to dust off one, I whip out the pistol and finish him off rather than run around like a chicken without it's head while I reload my LMG.

So you want to nerf the pistol?
What are you going to do about lerks in the vent early game? Good luck with that 100-130 damage pistol clip or the giant spray of the LMG.

When people think that the RoF is like 10 in half a second, they usually fall victim to lag. On a choky server sometimes you can kill a skulk in about a second with a pistol, but they might see it as firing all 5 shots at once.

On good servers it should never seem like you die in a split second to a pistol.

Pistols fine, scripts aint. mousehweel is fine, i use it, and trust me, its not really nifty for aim.

Takes a lot of practice to use the mwheel with the pistol and aim good, believe it or not, perfectly legit tatic

Well for me, i usually use the lmg to spray an insane amount of shots at the offending alien, this usually leaves me with hardly any shots for CQB and the alien low on health and armour, which is where i whip out the good ol' pistol. The pistol is, and forever be, the CQB firearm of choice for everyone simply because u want to kill the alien with more damaging shots and with 10 shots u shud be able to get away with this tactic. If not, then u cud use the knife! <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif' /><!--endemo--> Besides, marines shud be in large groups anyways, so the initial spray of lmgs shud b enough to whack most alien groups!
    as for giving marines 2 pistols: Bring it on! Max Payne style! <!--emo&::asrifle::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/asrifle.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='asrifle.gif' /><!--endemo--> <!--emo&::asrifle::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/asrifle.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='asrifle.gif' /><!--endemo-->
Remember, the pistol is not overpowered, you're just annoyed u always die from a few shots after being spawned!
