Router randomly restarting

<div class="IPBDescription">because you love help threads!</div>I have a linksys router (BEFSR41 v4.1) and it begins to randomly restart whenever I open/forward a port (any).

All the ethernet leds turn themselves off then after a second or so they go on again, I also get a msg in windows telling me my cable isnt inserted correctly when the leds go off.
I have upgraded the firmware, changed cables, reseted the router, set static ip and been at linksys support 5 times without solving it.
If I disable the forwarded port everything works as normal.

The more internet traffic the more frequent the restarts become, at least that's what I imagine. I cant return it I'd figure since it will be hard to prove that it isn't working correctly.

Any help appreciated, oh forum hardware gods and godesses.

That's your problem right there. I've NEVER had any kind of good experiences with linksys crap. Trash your router and purchase a $40 belkin one. I use belkin for anything and everything network and never had a problem yet.

Check your power supply. It might be overheating.

I can't help much other than saying the usual obvious things like unplug it and let it sit for a few minutes and re-plug it. I've never had good luck with my linksys routers either, but I always assumed they were the best because they're the ones you see most frequently. I've had at least one go bad early (or right out of the box), and my current one has crappy wireless that drops my WoW connection during Thaddius attempts, making me wipe the raid. I've taken to plugging it in wired, running a cable across the living room <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad-fix.gif" />

Can't help with your problem, but my D-Link was bulletproof. 704-something or other....

Weird, many retailers and network admins suggest linksys and they say it's what their selling most now too. I had a D-link before and I cant say it worked any better, I'll take a look at Belkin.

Do you mean I should see if the power cord is properly inserted or that it might be clogged thus stopping ventilation?

I really hate connection drops, especially when the programs/games cant reconnect unless you restart :/
