Getting basic textures in steam

<div class="IPBDescription">...like the elusive aaatrigger</div>Not necessarily mapping related, but how does one get the basic half-life textures into old-fashioned WorldCraft when they're all bottled up in Steam?

I mean, almost the only texture I need is aaatrigger, since sky is in one of the ns texture packs for some reason, but some of my lights and stuff are also from the original half-life textures, but there doesn't seem to be any way to get to them.

Plus, with the giant file names involved in getting to NS textures when they're in the steam folder, it's impossible for me to check what texture packs I actually have loaded into hammer, so I'm wondering if anyone knows of a configuration file or something I can look for in the WorldCraft folder where I can delete .wads I don't need anymore or edit them - since I can't see the ns_bast/ns_hera/etc. tags because the filemanes are way too long.

My main concern is still getting to the half-life textures though, and any help with that would be greatly appreciated.

Here is a link for <a href="http://dl-1.free.fr/52616e646f6d4956f3580de6d53c5206f4d690925c6a69e3d4ab2ea55ec10311/halflife.wad" target="_blank">hlife.wad</a> where you find aaatrigger texture. Anyway you can use Gfscape to open .gcf files in your steam folder. wads are embedded inside these gcf. Or your can crreate your own custom aaatrigger texture, just name it aaatrigger and it works. Hope it helps.

About the trouble to read the long file names of the wads in the Hammer texture window, there is certainly a file you can edit with notepad, but i know nor which one neither where it is. Maybe it's possible to resize Hammer windows (i remember there was a trick to do so). Hope someone knows the answer <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile-fix.gif" />

Here's one way of seeing what wads you have added to hammer.

    go start> run> <b>regedit</b> >enter<

be careful when you use regedit. Dont delete anything. or move anything. on fear of computer death.

    goto HKEY_CURRENT_USER/software/Valve/Valve Hammer Editor/General

in 'general' there is a list of the textures you are using. They are the same order as they appear in the hammer dialogue boxes. You can probably add and remove texture wads by editing the keys and values in this dialogue but I haven't tried it and wouldn't recommend it.

Also, I use the old wad from hl 1 installed with out steam.

Wow, it works for what i need. Whatever Hammer i use (Hammer3.5 or Hammer from the SteamSDK), i can find now the texture settings there. Thx. Brilliant tip, Mr SteveR <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wow.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":0" border="0" alt="wow.gif" />

Thanks for very much for the help (at least now I'll be able to continue my NS mapping); but if I use the halflife.wad file wont I need to wadinclude any of the half-life files I actually use, because it will be looking for the file wherever I had the wad? Or is it actually smart enough to look through all available wads to find the necessary textures?

[edit] I retract the question posed here and substitute it with: WTH, my hammer wont compile now...[/edit]
[edit2] Nevermind, woot, managed to get my hammer working again; these kinds of retarded questions tend to spring up once you've gotten use to the easy set up the integrated source hammer support provides (woot, not having to set up F9). [/edit]
