Otherwise, Isn't it kind of silly,
If you can't touch the movement keys at the same time while pressing the +movement key.

Since it requires that you lose some control to press.
It only makes sence to skip from the D key to the R key very briefly, and rarely.
And +Movement is a key which the aliens will use all the time.

_

Meanwhile the second most important right hand mouse key being wasted as an excess Menu Key.
(Clicking the Scroll Wheel is the other default, works good)

_

So since the Left hand is pinned down,
And the Right hand has a perfect key

Doesn't it make sence to default the +Movement key to the Right Mouse Key?

You wouldn't be able to do all that at once anyway, your keyboard would lock up unless you invested in something high-tech. You could press both d and r with the same finger.

It would make more sense to use e as the +movement key and r as +use. JMHO. I actually use TFGH and R,Y,U, and J for abilities.

But pressing E and D with the same finger, is just as silly as pressing R and D.

Like your saying, your keyboard would even lock up if you got that many keys pressed.
So the only alternative is to move it over to the mouse.

What I do believe however is that you are right that the +Use key isn't used much by aliens.
But it's +use is pressed so much for by the Marines to get put in a difficult position.

Vice Versa, +Movement is used all the time for Aliens
While +Reload is relatively hardly used at all by Marines.

Well, actually it does make sense since you can press both easily with your index finger. You're not going to be pressing all direction keys simultaneously (plus space bar), that isn't very reasonable and would make your keyboard lock up. Usually the limit is 3-4 keys at a time.

I don't really care much for mouse2 being +movement, since I'd bind it to +jump anyway.

So you'd be moving one of the movement keys over to the mouse either way :O

mate if your useing wasd for movement you will be fine, it may take a bit to get used to but soon enough your fingers will devour this new Key and all its possable combinations,

but grey falcon i can sort of see where your comeing from, on a normal key board the wasd and other surounding keys one would use and or bind on a normal qwerty key board or a lap top qwerty,

can be a bit interesting, see as I have a erganomic key board i dont find this problem, the other option is some form of gameing key board they usaly take hand erganomics into play

No, actually I don't use +movement. For me, +movement is the equivalent of e on a wasd setup, except it is the first hive ability.

Regardless what kinda keyboard you got.
Unless the R key is where your pinky key is at,
Using defaults you aren't going to be able to use +movement without taking your fingers off the other movement keys.

    _

I personally could always make a custom layout, and "devour" it easily.
The issue I'm focusing in on is how playable is the game with default controls.

My ulterior motive behind this is I know a group of people I'd like to drag into NS.
Catch is the default keys kinda suck.

Certainly the keyboard layout could use a workout as well.

I use all default keys, and I find nothing wrong with them. There probably are better layouts to improve reaction time, but I do plenty well by using the default. The only thing I have changed was putting chambers on my keypad.

I suppose I'm missing something completely here when I imagine how it's not hard to quickly tap the R key and move your finger back to D. If not, you still have two other fingers to move the other three ways.

I guess rather than beating around the bush.
My other point is that +Movement should be on the right mouse
And +Use a common Marine key, should also be on right mouse.

    For Aliens:
    R should be +Use
    Right Mouse should be +Movement

    For Marines:
    R should be +Reload
    Right Mouse should be +Use

E would probably still be defaulted to vanilla +Use
However that would quickly be changed by new players.

Idea is to get rid of some unneccisary keys.
    Without sacrificing usability, or intuativeness.

    _

Could be explained away as easily as titles in the key config screen
    Alien Movement / Marine Use
    Alien Use / Marine Reload

The menu will remain on rmb and +movement has to be available in the default HL keyset. The only option is to use the 'reload' key for +movement. If people find it unsuitable, they can customise their setup to suit their specific needs.
