the fact that Wii's are still selling out within 5 minutes of stores getting shipments, and PS3's and 360's are sitting on shelves everywhere, I think we may have a hint at the season's winner =d and PS3's were in much shorter supply at launch too...

Where are there PS3s sitting on shelves? I thought they were all on eBay. And that anyone that wants a 360 probably already has one, is saving for it, or is too lazy to pick it up.
You're a weird one. I know that EBgames on my campus in Urbana, IL, I witnessed someone replacing a PS3 (the casing was dented). I asked the clerk "You guys got PS3?". The reply, "We got 5 in the back, actually."

A quick glance at eBay shows 9175 auctions for 'Play Station 3' and 11063 auctions for 'wii.' I know that here in Canada Wiis flew off the shelves like nobody's business. I'm glad Nintendo has a winner on their hands.
Well i think Sony made a nice and big blunder, launching PS3's near,on the threshold or shortly after xmas, exactly when ppl dont have the money to pay for 1 were talking about 600pounds worth of console. But what i have heard is that most people that buy the console ,will probably use it as a "cheap" BluRay reader.seeing the odd diffrence between a "real" BluRay reader and the PS3 console is somewhat 600pounds. (about £1200 for a BluRay player)
Wait. It goes for £600? If the exchange rate is where it was a few months ago, I'll probably puke at the USD equivalent.
£1.00 = $1.94?!
(*BLAUGH!*)
Anyway, the Wii will survive on Nintendo products but will thrive on third party support. If other developers start hacking away with Ubisoft's zeal, the Wii will become a venerated platform.
yeah since PS3 is BluRay its going to be expensive. 1st gen consoles are a big turnoff anyway,in my opinion. noone knows if BluRay is going to be "the bomb" either. if i had to choose between Wii and PS3.

Meh, who wants a PS3 anyway. I'd take a Wii over a PS3 any day (what can you get besides Resistance: Fall of <strike>Halo</strike> Man and a crappy 'rally' racing game that, while touting 'awesome' graphics, looks about as good as Forza did on the Xbox. With the Wii you at least get Zelda and exercise. Maybe the Wii will finally prove that innovation can beat out flashy graphics and terrible gameplay.

Indeed. The only thing backing up PS3 is the upcoming titles, FF13 and MGS4.
Many MGS fans say they'd rather just read the story/cutscenes or just play on a friend's PS3, rather than actually buy one.
FF fans, I haven't checked.
Many people who bought PS3, to actually play it, have also returned it I heard.
One story<i>(Heard on IRC)</i> was someone who bought the PS3, and some football or sports game, after playing it for the weekend, they just returned it since they became bored.
I think Sony would have had a better chance at selling if they pushed it back to when MGS4 and FF13 came out. I doubt that when those games come out, there will be a huge increase in PS3s sold. Most people probably have heard many times how the PS3 sucks, and how Xbox360 and the Wii is 100x better. So those FF and MGS fans probably ended up buying a Wii or Xbox360.
It is not in Sony's best interest to make the PS3 broadly successful so long as the PS2 still is the best selling console, with a strong annual lineup (so far, there are about 30 PS2 titles announced for 2007). If they have any economic sensibility, they'll wait till the PS2 is no longer technologically viable for cross-platform titles and then drop the PS3s price so far as to constitute a 'de facto' mass market launch. Of course, the fact that they released the PS3 at horrendrous losses more than a year before the PS2 becomes obsolete makes me question their economic sensibilities, but either way, I predict a quiet year 2007 for the PS3 and a surprisingly spry one for its ancestor.

Spore is a nice step in a new direction. Especially since no modeling or skinning is needed, which makes it a total new direction. Also the randomly generated universe is quite interesting... I wish crafting in a mmorpg would be like that, create you own armor and items the way you want them to look (buffs based on crafting skill or something). I think mmorpg's in general need an overhaul as to how they are played...
And what about that infinity engine --> <a href="http://www.fl-tw.com/" target="_blank">Infinity: The Quest for Earth</a>, They have recently releaded their combat prototype v2.1 (it's not the actual game which will be infinite? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" />, but a team vs team test release)
