<div class="IPBDescription">lerk flight</div>Ok, im not sure, that this is the first post of something like this, but here is the idea:
If i press left strafe and jump with lerk, make the lerk fly to the left direction, without having it rotating, if you know what i mean. So with the right strafe, and backwards.

    IIRC this was how it worked in 2.0 but to make flight easier they made it like it's today.

    Svenpa is correct. But it was even trickier than that: When your move forward, backward, left, and right keys push you in those 4 directions horizontally, how do you get into the air? The solution was to add vertical lift to all 4 horizontal directions. Seems simple enough so far, and it worked very well.

    Notice the missing direction? Down. No matter which way you thought you were flying, you were ALWAYS flying upwards. So 2.01 Lerks spent most of their time on the ceiling, because they literally had no way to get off. The only way out was to just stop flying entirely, and wait for the Lerk to slowly glide down. This usually resulted in being shot.

    I think it could still work if it was brought back with an extra key to allow you to dive downwards, but its not particularly necessary, since the new system is far superior for landing melee attacks.

    im not sure you got it correctly, my mistake sry, i tought about: now if i press jump with lerk it goes forward. what i suggest lerk should go forward if i press forward and jump, fly strafe if i press a strafe button and jump, backwards if i press backwars and jump, and these combination, or maybe if i press strafe and forward it makes the turn in 45° if you get what i mean. ps sry my englsih isnt the best

    So (to those useing WASD for movement)

    Forward = W+Jump
    Left = A
    Right = D
    Back/Reverse = S

    I cant see why not, it dosn't interrupt with current flight method. Maybe lerks will be to good?
    I like the idea anyhow *thumbs up*

    I give this two big thumbs down. Other then looking completely ridiculous and being completely physically impossible it would give the Lerk a huge advantage.

    I Lerk could swoop in forward then do a quick right strafe flight into a corridor. I think the current flight system is pretty dang good and accurate. They're are one of the most mobile units in the game, even after the 3.2 gimp.

    I know this is a game and sci-fi but I think would look so utterly dumb. Have you seen a bird fly strafe to the left or right. I know I've never seen a bird fly backwards either.

    Gah Kolibri was a hard game after a few levels >.<

    But the lerk isn't a humming bird, so it can't fly backwards...

    uhhhh...make it a hummingbird!

    That's actually a really good idea...make it so that if you're not pressing a movement button and you are holding your jump/+move/w\e key your wings flap fast and hover you instead of gliding.

    ONLY if you are not moving forward.

    i didnt imagine exactly as you does. if the lerk goes forward and you press backwards it pulls up his "nose" and slows down, like a helicopter. and after it stops it goes backwards, i think hl2 engine capable of doing this

    IT'S HUMMING WITHOUT FLAPPING 999TIMES PER SECOND!

    i think it should fly like a bat or a sugar glider, thats is it has the options to tilt like a chopper, yet it can also do some advanced moves by droping lift and trust on a certain side

    true the old flight system lacked down, what need to happen was looking down and pushing forwards with out jump should of sent you into a quike dive

    the system does need improvments, let hope they get it right the firsttime so it require little to no lack of changeing thru NS 2's exsistance
