Nostalgia
<div class="IPBDescription">Drunkness!</div>Off topic is beautiful. Remember that. Drunk post! feel free to ignore.
So I'm planning on rambling. Partly to say how much I ###### love the ns community. But mainly to just look back at the years of fantastic gaming I've had, thanks to these guys working away.
Remember the old HMG sound, more meaty and cannonesque? remember the time when DC's used to be six foot tall and flood the room with a chunky sound of healing goodness? Remember having total lock down just because you took control of the double res? Remember the smell of victory ringing in your nostrils as you command your HA train to crush that final hive? Remember the sweet, salty, taste of your first marine as you bite deep into is ankles, circle round and finish him off with a bite to the face?
It's been four long years, and I still remember vividly the first time I ever played NS. It just keeps getting better day after day. Now I discover the forums brought back from the dead, NS 2 being planned (euphoria) and all the potential of the source engine and more being thrown in the mix.
Truly these are exciting times and I just want to <i>[point it out</i>. Other wise it will pass un-noticed.
All you guys (and gals) that put your hard time and effort into Natural Selection; Thank you. In the sincerest form from my drunken state, thank you.

I'm almost positive they did.
e/ I did a quick search through the changelogs - (I must be bored) and couldn't see anything. I was always in the customization forums before though, maybe it was a model set someone made i'm thinking of.
further proof that alcohol+internet=win

I could have phoned an ex or something. This is like the best mistake ever.
And I'm pretty sure that DC's were taller than other chambers? or perhaps they were then they fattened out as you built them.
I miss the walls of lame. Back then NS really made you crap your pants. Running into an Onos was freaking scary. Everyone is so blasé nowadays... I hope they bring that feeling back with NS2.

That's because you ran into an Onos once every couple of weeks, when the aliens had already won the game and the rest of your team had F4'd.

Then the obvious solution is to make something even bigger and nastier than an Onos <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile-fix.gif" />
The wall of lame was simply cutting of an area with DC's as a base, then stacking OC's on that to seal of an entrace. Also the only way to make OC's somewhat effective due to their crappy targeting.
I also remember something about closing of the doors with CC's in ns_eclipse...
The onos was just scary because it had a faulty hitbox, still it should have kept some of this armor strengths though
Oh and 1.04 (with bugfixes) FTW <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" /> ns as it is today has lost it's charm it once had. To bad really :/
[edit]
Oh and all chambers where about 150% (maybe more) larger then the current chambers
Those were the days... <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad-fix.gif" />
another thing!
1.04 siege sound totally outclassed 2.x/3.x siege sounds. Where the current is simply a >badoom< 1.04 it's siege was >BADOOOM< <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" />

fun it was emperor, fun it was <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin-fix.gif" />
*stuck in wall*
*dies*
I remember when NS used to be fun and people actually played it.

Cool, that means I'm still living in one of those days.
Maybe it's a good thing after all that I started so late with NS.
As far as I'm told, the original walls of lame consisted of so many DCs healing each other that even large numbers of siege cannons couldn't take them down. A fun gimmick for sure, but detrimental to the game. Nothing to miss.

Not true, a HA train or sieges could take them down! And it made comebacks incredible experiences..

My experience with this was that the siege cannons did only manage to fire at one of the DCs as they were stacked precisly upon each other. Thus the other dcs healed the single dc up quick enough.
