Left Arrow Problem

<div class="IPBDescription">How to fix? D: </div>Occasionally (although rare) at random moments my PC decides that I am holding down the left arrow on my keyboard, even though I am not. This makes it very hard to do anything, as clicking on any menus, start button, etc. makes it fly through all the possible choices. At first I checked my keyboard and removed the keys. There is nothing wrong with it, and is functioning normally.

I tried plug a different keyboard in anyway, but the same thing happened instantly. Both keyboards use a PS2 port.

The only way to fix this problem I have discovered is restarting. On one occasion the left arrow problem stopped by itself, but I have no idea why or how.

Googling doesn't seem to help much as I get lots of sites about keyboard shortcuts.

I have had this same problem even after replacing the one and only hard drive in my PC with a brand new one and reinstalling windows. However it has been a month since then, and infection is not ruled out. I have ran a few scans but they pick up nothing. (adaware, spysweeper, AVG)

I am running Windows XP with Service Pack 2.

Can anybody help me please? It's very annoying. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/confused-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="???" border="0" alt="confused-fix.gif" />

I've had this exact same problem actually. However it really only happened to me while playing RTS games. The way I fixed it (When it happened) was by pressing the left arrow key again, causing it to re-sense the button-up action and stopping the scrolling. Im not sure what causes this though, it's a pretty random error.

This happens to my mouse pointer. It moves on its own, for a few seconds or until I move it myself.

Perhaps the left arrow key is related to the posessed mousecursor. The mouse cursor (on optical mice only) can move by itself when theres dust inside the mouse or at the cavety where the red light shines. Sometimes the beam is diverted by dust and the mouse thinks "OI MOVEMENT!"

--> perhaps theres some stuff underneath your left key?

But I don't have an optical mouse.

Stuff stuck under the key? Nope ... I cleaned the first keyboard out and made sure that wasn't the issue. Same with the second.

Interestingly enough, it has never ever happened whilst playing a game. Pressing any combination of arrows to resolve it doesn't seem to help.

Well the general consensus on the NS-forums when something is unexplainable would be: "nanites"

No, turn off all power to your computer then take out the battery located on the motherboard for a few minutes.
Every setting in the bios will be resetted but your operating system wont feel a change.

I have had the problem, but can't really remember what I did about it. Have you tried installing another driver?

try a USB keyboard. if that works, then youve got yourself a motherboard problem.
