Check your fans. Could be dust that built up on them. Or they might just need a little oil.

I'm sure they have backup servers. They just happen to be in the same part of the country.

Also, even if the server building itself has power, the connecting nodes may not.

/hadn't heard that some people died due to the horrible weather. =(

Nope, you'd need to apply NEW paste, not more...

And remember, fans doesn't just mean case fans, or CPU fans. It can mean ANY fan in your system, including the one in your PSU (if there is one...) GPU fans, northbridge fan. Hell, even your hard drive might be going dodgy if it's making an overly loud noise

yes patch im not a moron, I need to apply more past because the old paste seems to have vanished from the base and chip, I am more than capable of fixing my own pc I just dont have what I need :/

I actually got this problem before the storm...

I would update all servers, not filters, and then update only NS 3.2 Beta servers, and only 1 or 2 would come up. After waiting a little while, it is fine.

I also get a wonderful bug where when i quit NS (3.1 or 3.2) I can't connect to anything; can't open web browsers or sign onto anything, but all previous connections are fine. The fix is to quit steam.... Lame valve I sent them an email with 2 questions and an inquiry (a knowledge-based one) and they answered the one I dodn't care about (the inquiry). Oh joyous day.

Fatman, that sounds like a router issue. (unrelated to Steam specifically, though it seems it's triggering the problem) Try bypassing the router. If the problem resolves, try updating the router firmware or buying a new one.

Haha, Steam went down when I was at a LAN... so we had to play Quake 3 instead. No big loss really.
