How's the moddability?
however, after watching some movies, it seems they are kind of repeating the same thing over and over again? and whats with the romulans saying: "you would stand against us, you invite your doom" against the Borg, don't they know they are no match for me *ahem* I mean the Borg? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" />

I think anyone who watches a movie of any real time strategy game is going to say you end up doing the same thing over and over. Same goes for World of Warcraft or other grindy MMOs, or any multiplayer FPS like Counterstrike, or any sports game (in real life or in a videogame), or plenty of oher things. The difference is in how much fun it is.
I'm holding off on Legacy until some nice mods come out or I have a new computer or something.
* Windows XP (Home, Media Center or Pro Editions)
with Service Pack 2
* DirectX Version 9.0c
* Intel Pentium 4 (2.66ghz or higher)
or AMD Athlon XP 2800+ or higher
* DX9 compatible AGP 8X or PCI Express video card,
128 MB VRAM, Pixel Shader 1.4
* 16-bit Direct Sound compatible sound card,
speakers or headphones required for audio
* 512 MB RAM
* 5 GB free space
* LAN or Broadband connection (DSL or Cable Modem)
for Multiplayer
* Windows compatible Keyboard & Mouse
^^ Think I'm going to miss out on this due to lack of funds <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad-fix.gif" />
If you can find it cheap it would be worth buying for sheer lol factor, otherwise I would just avoid it.
ya know:
We are the Borg, lower your firewalls and give us your ship. Resitance is futile and we will steal you cookies if you don't do as we tell you to... Oh and also some assimilation will be involved...
You're in the vacume of space - a burst of gas and you can flip the ship over. Watch battlestar galactica (the new one) and you'll see what I mean.
Looks like it's got pretty basic lighting too - from some of the videos the ships almost look full-bright. Having the ships light up with phaser fire seems like an obvious step to me but I guess not.
overall opinion: meh.
I didn't look too deeply into it but just how much control do you have on each ship - can you pilot them yourself for added player pwnage or is it all click attack based?
yea that's why I wouldn't play the game - because it's good in the shows but it's not something I'd enjoy in a game. Doesn't make my point less valid just because it's accurate to the series. Rock paper scissors turn computer game isn't going to be a success just because the "original" version is. Lame comparison but I should be studying anyway haha.

You can control a ship. There are four movement buttons and 4 speeds (Full, 1/2, 1/4, Stop). You left click to fire phasers at your current target, and right click fires torpedoes.
the game is VERY modable with a proper save/load game moded in, new ship, new maps (8player from the default 4) new effects.
this is just in 1 week of the game being out!
The combat somehow felt just too wrong and out of tune with the Star Trek scenery on this one...

And on the subject of Legacy just got a copy after watching it run on my mates computer. Jesus those specifications on their website are so inaccurate its untrue. If you can run UT2k3/4 you can run Legacy.
EDIT* Having a bad day, damn typo's.

heroes and legends is a canon mod that aims to make legacy more realistic so far they've "fixed" the defiant, the galaxy, the intrepid and the akira.
he Galaxy is a BEAST of a ship. Don't go near this thing without some fancy footwork, or some backup. It's got the best phasers, great shielding, good armor, and a 20-torpedo barrage. Its weaknees is the slow reload time on the torpedoes.
The Akira is a torpedo cruiser. It's reload times are faster than the Galaxy, and it carries more torpedoes. But it's severely lacking in phaser power compared to the Galaxy. If you want to go toe-to-toe with battleships, bring along another ship that can take down their shields.
The Defiant is the warship. It has 54% the shield strength of the Galaxy, and a better recharge rate, and good overall hull and subsystem armor. It's weakness is in its short-range weapons and lack of phaser coverage. With full power to weapons, it can take out a Galaxy class about half-two thirds of the time. However, when a Galaxy class explodes, you better start running . . .
The Intrepid is a great deal for the price. Decent shields, good recharge rates on shields and phasers, and a recent torpedo reload time. Its weakness is its subsystems, which are poorly protected, and its overall weak phasers.
