I'd heard about this a while ago, but I thought it was just a stupid scheme to capitalise on their franchise's popularity. I never thought it would go through.... it'll be like Neopets: The movie. This is terrible.
Super skeptical, yup. WoW is not popular because of it's amazing acting or amazing plotlines. So, that means the movie is either going to be a copy of the game and boring to watch, or divert so far from the game, nerds will complain that it sucks.

If by movie being a copy of the game you mean the movie following the storyline of Warcraft I, II, III - then I think that would be totally awesome. I love the storyline of the Warcraft series and seeing it done professionaly as a movie would be nothing to complain about as far as I'm concerned. Blizzard feels secure with this company as the said:
"Many companies approached us in the past, but it wasn't until we met with Legendary Pictures that we felt we'd found the perfect partner. They clearly share our high standards for creative development, and because they understand the vision that we've always strived for with our Warcraft games, we feel there isn't a better studio out there for bringing the Warcraft story to film."
If it's a knock off on the storyline, some random thing... well I guess we'd have to see if it still has Warcraft coolness to it, or if they did make it dull, no way of knowing yet.

You might want to check up on how many companies in similar situations have said the exact same thing. It's just marketing speak, don't take it to heart.
Ok, I'm getting sick of these sword & sorcery movies. <!--coloro:#003336--><span style="color:#003336"><!--/coloro-->Should have gone with Everquest<!--colorc--></span><!--/colorc-->
Well, there's a hell of a lot of potential here, and I'd love to watch a movie that faithfully depicts the story of the first three games, but the omens aren't good. I can't think of a single game-based-movie that was any good. Worse than that, I <i>can</i> think of a certain movie based on a game where the game had an excellent, rich storyline and the movie was being made by the same person who directed the game itself - Wing Commander. I don't think I need to expand on <i>that</i> one any further...
I'm going to go with "cautious optimism" on this one.
Btw, I notice the press release is dated May 9th. Are there any updates to go on?

I'm hopefull. Blizzard is supposed to be working very closely with the studio, and will be doing things on their timescale.
And besides, while WoW may not have great storylines, Reign of Chaos and Frozen Throne did. Watch some of those cinematics, especially the one where Arthas returns to Lorderon and the one where he merges with Ner'Zuhl (the Lich King). Seriously cool stuff.

Oh come on, the warcraft storyline is far from just plain 'swords and sorcery'.
We have the Lich king, (Spoilers awaits, do not highlight if you don't want spoilers) <!--coloro:#003336--><span style="color:#003336"><!--/coloro-->a guy who was once a paladin but killed his father then became a death knight. And Dark Templars shouting "Adun Torridas"<!--colorc--></span><!--/colorc-->
There are many people who played Warcraft, who played Diablo(<i>Although it was less interesting for me since it didn't really have 'main characters', as the players were basically</i>), who played Starcraft without even listening or playing through the story, but for those who did they all enjoyed how well the plot and stuff were done.
I really enjoyed Starcraft and WC3's storyline. I enjoyed Starcraft's story more, mainly because it always got my attention, while WC3 had some dull moments for me.
The thing that bugs me about the Warcraft storyline is not so much the actual plot, but that at times it's quite poorly written. The intro to War3, for example, has some lines that I thought extremely cheesy and overly melodramatic. The actual plot that's being described, though, I rather like.
So I really hope they get a good writer for the movie. But, well, at the rate game movies go I think we'll be lucky if we get even the same calibre of the games themselves.

Hopefully the second one because I don't care how much nerds whine or how much it is adapted to the screen just so long as it's a damn good watch. blizzard generally makes really good decisions and has some great writers and artists, so if they're involved in production (like writing the screenplay and doing CGI), maybe the movie has a shot at not sucking.
if it's just going to be another Lara Croft or Doom, we have a problem.
None of you boys can say you didn't like the Tomb Raider movies, so don't lie. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" />

Look just because a movie is full of T&A doesn't mean we guys want to watch it. Sure we might watch it because we expect to see some T&A, but mostly we are actually interested in the dialog and so forth.
A fine example of this is the Doom Movie. We guys, we do pay attention to movies just not crappy ones.

The best thing about Tomb Raider is that it was a 100% faithful interpretation of the first game. The worst thing about Tomb Raider is that it was a 100% faith... eh, you get the idea.
Anyway, regarding this movie: I'm super-psyched. I've been saying Blizz should make movies since I saw the Starcraft intro cinematic. They've got a few options with a Warcraft movie, and I hope they choose carefully and do whatever idea they pick justice:
1) Tell one of the classic stories from the existing games -- IMO, the best would probably be Arthas' fall, but it might make for a long movie (and it doesn't really have closure; Arthas's story fades out as Thrall's rises, and doesn't conclude until Frozen Throne). Thrall's story could be good, but it'd be hard to make a movie with a non-human protagonist. 2) Tell one of the older stories, probably from WC2. 3) Tell a new story, and accompany it with a WoW patch adding the new content. 4) Tell a "small" story, about an unknown during greater events that would be familiar to a Warcraft-savvy moviegoer.

I agree with keeping the pr0n and legit movies separate.
I mean it's like that one commercial where there were dancing and singing football players(<i>the characters were football players</i>), basically the narrator said(not exact quote) "Usually, combining one thing men likes(football), with another thing with women(shows) likes usually results in both of them not liking the thing".
What I want to see is a Super Mario Bros. Movie... By Pixar Animation
Teaser Trailer. "The Princess has been kidnapped" *Army of Koopa Troopa and Goomba stand between Mario/Luigi and Boswer's castle. "Two brothers on a quest" *Mario, in a kart, took out a flashing star, squeezed it. Mario and the Kart glowed and sped after Bowser. *Yoshi threw an egg at piranha plant" "Coming Summer 2007"
One good thing I already like about the movie, is that blizzard is not going to rely on special effects. They want the story and the characters to carry the movie.

Everyone read that again.
That said, women are often times more sexual than men, it's just a more wholistic, less overt form.
