I made a thread for this before but it .. dissapeared. I can still find it with search but it doesn't show up on the forum <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/confused-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="???" border="0" alt="confused-fix.gif" />

Anyway. I built a new computer recently and in the process lost my old lights.rad so the texlights are different. I also got the cubemaps working properly.

Only 1 screenshot this time since i just couldn't make the screenshots look anything near as good as in game.

Run it in Half Life 2: Deathmatch.

Doesn't look ns'ish. Are you using custom textures?

Maybe more coloured lighting would do the trick.

You did download the map right, not just go by that one screenshot .. because there's actualy a fair bit of coloured lighting. Definately more coloured lights then uncoloured ones.

are you saying that isn't a representative shot? give us a more representative shot then. or give us many shots. don't expect everyone to download your map though. most people are unwilling to download a map.

There's a reason i only put one. I can't get the screenshots to look anything like it does in game.

If i leave it unaltered than it's too dark to see anything. I need to tweak the brightness/contrast so you can see it but i suck at that and the image comes out too washed out and looks crap.

To see the map properly, gonna have to download it sorry <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" />

hmm.. well Im getting an "unable to load authentication library. exiting..." error. it happens for all maps, so I'll check yours out when this doesn't happen anymore.

So you mean the in-game looks really dark and the screenshot you have above isn't a true representative shot? :/

I think he means that he plays with the lights off and it looks fine.

    You mean people actualy play with lights on? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/confused-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="???" border="0" alt="confused-fix.gif" />

    <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" />

I play the map in hl2, it looks fine. I take the screenshot. When i open it, it's 3x as dark as it was ingame. To fix it, i have to alter the images brightness/contrast. It used to work fine, but i just grabbed a new version of the gimp & when i do that now it washes out all the colour and looks really wierd.

So if you want more screenshots. you can either have: too dark to see anything or washed out with no contrasting colours left.

While NS'ish Source maps are great, unfortunately they're currently only good for eye-candy (screen shots).

We'd love to see more of the map, but I dont think i'll be d/l'ing the map to see it. The 1 shot, doesnt look too bad for a start.

well, the old thread is still around. It just doesn't show up for some reason, can stil find it with search.

    <a href="http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/index.php?s=8817590054701071360&showtopic=97993&hl=bakura" target="_blank">http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/index....3&hl=bakura</a>

The pictures in there are old. The lighting is a bit different and cubemaps arn't done yet but you can still get a good look at alot of the map.

    edit:

and wow, things really do look darker when you turn the lights on <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wow.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":0" border="0" alt="wow.gif" />. Can't remmeber the last time i actualy played a game with the lights on.
  • ShenTraXShenTraX Join Date: 2003-11-10 Member: 22434Members, Constellation
Thanks for the link. It does looks rather good.

I think those shots look fine also.... I can see them just fine. *runs and turns light back on*

Something good to hold on to once they do release it for source.... course you may have to re-texture a bit once they release the infestation textures/ns source wad.

But at least we may have a good NSS map to play.

I fiddled around with the lighting. You can play the map during the day or when you have the rooms lights turned on now <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wow.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":0" border="0" alt="wow.gif" />. More contrast between the light and dark areas too.

    <a href="http://dys-tools.com/nss/3/junction.jpg" target="_blank">junction</a>

    a new area:

    Cargo <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin-fix.gif" />. I'm trying to think of something else to name it just so i don't have a room called 'cargo' <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" />.

a new copy of the bsp too.

more screwing around with lighting and i added the elevator that runs between the 2 levels of the mall and cargo. (although it's not quite working perfectly, it behaves oddly if you change direction on the middle floor & i havn't added call buttons yet to call the elevator to your floor).

    new area:
    <a href="http://dys-tools.com/nss/5/treatment.jpg" target="_blank">Water Treatment</a>

I'm trying to get it so that the water in the tank with the mixer looks like it's being churned/splashed about. I've had a quick attempt at it using env_splashes but it doesn't look very good <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad-fix.gif" />. Still looking for a better way

as much as i love talking to myself, these posts arn't worth the time it takes to make the screenshots if no-one bothers to give feedback.

Rather unfortunate that the views counter keeps going up but the replies counter hasn't moved in over a month. (not counting my own posts/updates of course)

I've been taking a look at most of the screenshots now. And what I have to say is that it is all around a little bit too dark, but do not lighten it up too much..just a little bit! Also the vent area is the one area that can slightely remind me of the NS look. Other textures(though there are not many textures that look like ns for source) would do a whole lot to the map!

    Merry Xmas!

If I recall you posted these over in the ID forums aswell. same applies here man. looks too earthy for the NS universe. try stray as much as you can from the standart HL2 textures. There is plenty of metal textures in there that would do in the mean time.

It only means that your gamma monitor isn't correctly set. So you see images darker than their are for us. You can find free tools on the internet to reset your gamma so then you will produce cute screenshots.
