Forum name: im_lost

18 players

3 wolves
3 mafia (works the same as wolves, just as a different "team")
1 psychopath

if a single player is targeted by more than one person for death, that
person dies, no botched murder

humans (11)

* 1 vigilante: pick one person to kill each night, can choose not to
* 1 seer: checks for wolves
* 1 angel: checks for mafia
* 1 detective: checks for psychopath
* 3 masons: the masons know that each other are humans at the
beginning of the game
* 1 psychic: at the beginning of each night, gets the number of
wolves + mafia (this number does NOT include the psychopath)
* 1 guardian: protects a player from any killer, even from multiple
killers; the person saved is not revealed to anyone
* 1 martyr: the martyr can pick a person, and if that person would
normally die during the night, the martyr dies instead; if the martyr
picks someone that is targeted for death, the guardian can prevent the
death by protecting the targeted person OR the martyr
* 1 forensic specialist: checks one DEAD person per night, and finds
out exactly what role that person had

Whoa, special roles galore. A shame, but I won't be playing in this one. Seriously, just don't got the time.

Incidentally, the psychopath went unexplained. Role?

It's a lone wolf wolf. He kills someone each night, but is unattached to any team, effectively meaning he's incredibly unlikely to win.

Read this thread for an explanation of the psychopath (Sky's rule set). His rule set has "botched murder" mentioned for the case of a single person being targeted by multiple people, but my game doesn't use that.

There's too many roles for me to figure out.

Im_lost, can you break it down and tell us exactly how does one win the game?

    I mean like:

    wolves kill all.
    Psychopath kills all.
    etc.

I don't see this game other than a huge mess down to the last 3 players and by flunk one party wins.

The game will end when everyone alive is on the same side, or when everyone is dead (resulting in a 2, 3, or 4-way tie).

I wanted a little more detail.

    such as:

wolves win when they have 3 players left and 3 other players left (or is it 2?)
    mafia win....?
psychopath wins when he is alone with one other player (?)

As you say, the win conditions are a little confusing. Your post, along with previous comments, actually caused me to modify my idea for the psychopath win condition. The stuff below will be copy/pasted into the thread to start the game.

Humans win if there are only humans remaining.

Psychopath wins if they are the only player remaining, or if they go into the final day with one other player remaining.

Mafia or werewolves win if only their side is left, or if there are multiple people on that side and less players on a single other side. For example, 2 mafia and 1 werewolf remaining is a mafia win, or 3 mafia and 2 werewolves. However, if the night starts with 3 werewolves, a psychopath and a vigilante, the game wouldn't be over, because the day could start with 1 werewolf plus the vigilante and be a tie. If I'm not completely sure that a side can wipe out everyone else, then I will keep the game going.

Another thing to clarify: If the last day starts with two players, and those two players are on opposing sides, the game is a tie, even if one of them has a single phantom vote. The only exception is if one of those players is the psychopath, in which case they will win. If one of the people has 1.1 phantom votes, then they die immediately, even if they are the psychopath.

Let me know if anything else is unclear.

For future reference to make things easier I updated the rules thread a couple of weeks ago with all of the special roles that have been used or mentioned before. Hopefully this should be helpful to everyone. Some of them are in a little more detail than described elsewhere as well.

Alright, that clears the win condition up a bit. Now for some interesting scenarios... just because I like to poke at this game a bit more.

Scenario: psychopath and wolf and human left. It is night.

Psychopath tries to kill the wolf. The wolf tries to kill the psychopath.

Who gets priority to kill? Do both of them take each other out, leaving the poor human the victor after the massacre?

Yep, the human would win in that case.

OK, this may seem like a critiscism, but it's not intended to be, it's just i feel sorry for the psychopath.

He is in a team of one , he has no fellows he has no back-up, and not only this but he also has someone actively seeking him.

This to me makes playing the psycho a complete waste of time.

Also the detective has the rather boring job of looking for only the psychopath.

IMHO it would be better to get rid of the detective, and that way it makes the game far more interesting.

Also I see a very big problem with creating alliances. Please explain if i have anything wrong here...

Seer (Player A) targets Player B who is returned as human (but is actually Mafia)

Seer contacts Mafia and now his network is compromised before he even starts.

Rather than balancing it out to make a human win less likely, it makes a human win virtually impossible, for the seer can only confirm who is human or wolf, the angel can only confirm who is mafia or not. This means the angel's network is likely to contain humans and wolves, and the seer's network likely to contain human and mafia. This could lead to mis-targetting and a very confusing, but almost certain, non human win.

Now i'm all up for the humans losing a game for once, but would much rather it be because of skillful play by their opponents, rather than the fact they haven't got a cat in hell's chance.

Like i said, this is not a critiscism, just my opinion now i have studied the roles and options more in depth. To sum up - Human, or Psychopath win is virtually impossible as I see it playing out, although i may be wrong.

Also i sthe guardian aware he made a save? Because if he isn't then there is no point in him being there. it doesn't reveal who is a wolf or mafia or human to him, but he should be aware he made a save that night.

I think the humans have a reasonable chance of winning still. Wolves, mafia, and psychopath can end up killing each other during the night. Human networking isn't impossible, just more difficult, since the seer and angel can link up and start checking the same people, plus a seer that is known to mafia isn't necessarily a good mafia target. There's also the additional element for the mafia, werewolves, and psychopath of figuring out when it would be best to kill each other instead of humans. If we end up with 17 people playing instead of 18, I'll take out the detective. The guardian isn't useless, they still deter wolves/mafia/psychopath from picking the obvious target, and that's what they should do (that's what I think, anyway).
