The more stuff like this I see and the more interviews with people in the lines I read (who all seem to be buying their PS3 just to sell it) I'm honestly wondering how many were actually bought by someone who wanted to play the darn thing XD

Did you know the game to console ratio for the japanese release was less than 1 per console? Keep in mind some people bought 2 games for their new machine so that means a fair few people bought <b>just the console</b>. Helllooooo ebay ¬.¬

I can't help but feel the launch so far has been a joke... especially with sony losing $300 per unit.

"Amazing never expected a sledgehammer" - Uh of course not because he had a blowtouch in his hand too? Morons.

    Quite funny though.

I must pay my respects to the PS3's sturdiness. Considering that it was facing a most worthy opponent in the form of a sledgehammer, it carried itself amicable. Defeat was inevitable, but it was a graceful defeat, the power imbalance considered.

This is normally the part where I'd proceed to laugh at the entire PS3 launch and feel smug about not being interested in it myself, but the numerous reports of mugging and assault have saddened me. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad-fix.gif" />

I do like some upcoming games on that thing though... probably getting one in like two or three months... depens, if the price drops.

They should have just picked it up and smashed it against the concrete a few more times. A piece of plastic flew off when it hit the concrete the first time. Looks like it can stand up to a sledgehammer reasonably well, but can't stand up to a little pavement. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink-fix.gif" />

Really though, I didn't find this terribly amusing. Some guys blew nearly $700 just to smash it in front of some people who probably didn't actually care all that much.

    ...

I just wish that I could afford to do things like stand in line for a console on the launch date. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad-fix.gif" />

I learned from the video that it's remarkably durable... it didn't shatter very well under the might of the sledgehammer.

is Sony really losing $300 even though it's a $600 console? so it costs them $900 to make one?? how can that be when you can get a PC that's more powerful for like $500?

You can get a PC that can outdo a PS3 for $500? BS.

I'd think around $1.5k-$2.5k USD. Honestly I haven't checked price of anything in a while.

The video wasn't really amusing for me though.

What would have been amusing if he threw the ps3 into a crowd and watch everyone fight for it.

I would've gotten a kick if they had waited until the store sold out. Took it out of the box in front of the still waiting crowd. Dropped it just the one time, no sledge hammering or anything. Then auctioned it off on the spot as-is.

Yes...that'd have been about 100x funnier or amusing or at the very least quasi-entertaining. There's so much more comedy to have been had from $700.

[edit] On a side note: that is some crazy, seizure-inducing signature you've got there. [/edit]

To be honest disco, the PS3 isn't much like a PC internally at all. It's fairly bizarre and whatnot having it's own unique architecture and stuff. You can read about the loss per unit and internal shenanigans in the article below if you're interested :3

<b>edit:</b> ok... why's the linky code not working? I removed the url tags and things so it wasn't so horrible but what happened? :/

I'd put good money on the PS3 being solid as a rock. Have you ever opened a slim PS2? It's packed tight as all hell in there with all sorts of nifty support frames and whatnot to prevent tampering.

Why buy a PS3 now? There're virtually no great games on it yet. Faulty hardware, and the high price. And The price will get cut later, probably by the time games you can actually care about get released. Makes no sense.
