<div class="IPBDescription">alien planet survival action</div>First off, 100% credit for this paticular link goes to everyone's favorite norseman, DHP. He is the one who directed me to this, and evidently the one who found the website in the first place. He wins a lot of internets.

What is notrium? The premise is simple. You are a space explorer (usually) who has just crash-landed on a hostile alien world. Now, faced with virtually no resources, and a constantly dwindling supply of health, food, and small rocks, you must survive. Your enemies are everything from terrible weather to hostile lifeforms and robots who want to stab you. The game is even friendly with modern video cards and resolutions so you can play it in 1600x1200 windowed if you like. There are also four PC races, which are each similar but have a radically diffrent way of tackling certain problems they will experience planetside.
Possible cons: Slightly primitive graphics, if that's a con to you. I think it gives it a nice retro feel. It's also really easy to die, be prepared for the fantastic amazing trial by horrible death that is promoted by most games of this type. Thankfully you can save just about anywhere. Finally, make sure you do the ingame tutorial in order to get up to speed. You'll need it.

This, too, looks fun. I'll give it a whirl.
And yeah, been playing Crimsonland a lot too, looking forward to Crimsonland 2 (currently in the making), mostly because it will have multiplayer over the internet/LAN :S
Thought I'd just pimp the post I linked Redford to when he was bored the other day (i.e. where he saw Notrium), has a list of some other freeware games that are worth a look, you prolly know some of them already though <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" />

Also, it is worthwhile building the forcefield things. They heal you, give you a bit of food and stay there FOREVER!
Edit: AFAIK you have to kill the hermit. Shame <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad-fix.gif" />
Anybody know what to do in the part north of Eden? The masses of aliens there always slaughter me.
Pistol won't do damage against the damn robots though <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad-fix.gif" />
Here is how to get all the starter weapons, and a few others.
Tazer (1H): Just southwest of the hermit's hut is a cross-shaped rock formation, the tazer is under the middle rock. Mostly used for stunning larger aliens until you can make a real gun, this is also used in a very dangerous piece of equipment.
Pistol (1H): Pistol chassis + powered accelrator. You can find unpowered accelerators in the ship graveyard, and then combine them into working ones. Pretty useless, but can be used at the same time as the flashlight. Is also dropped by pistol marines, but this is a bad way to get one.
Pebble Shotgun: Powered Accelrator + long metal rod. Doesn't do as much damage as you might expect, but ammo is everywhere.
Radiator: Powered Accelerator + fuel cell. Extreme short range, does good damage. Not as good as the flamer quite yet. Doesn't drain battery too fast either.
VC pistol (1H): Dropped by VC pistol marines sometimes. Superior to the pistol in all respects except in range and accuracy.
VC stun laser (1H): Dropped by stunner marines sometimes. Does great damage for only two energy. Is possibly bugged.
Sniper pistol: Pistol + long metal rod. Does insane damage and is perfectly accurate, and can even drill through multiple enemies. However takes forever to reload and needs specalized sniper bullets made with bullets + ether.
Rapid pistol: Pistol + (ice pack + glass tube). Absurd fire rate. Doesn't do much more damage then the pistol, but fires so rapidly it doesn't really matter. Spends ammo quickly.
Flamethrower: ((Lighter + glass tube) + specimen container) + long metal rod. Also sometimes dropped off flamethrower marines. Short range, but does absurd damage and causes even more damage over time. Most enemies will not last long exposed to this. Is heavy and uses ether for ammo. Androids love this thing.
Warp Gun: Warp coil + tazer. Deadly. Fires a medium range beam that utterly obliterates and knocks away anything it can't kill. Even the biggest and baddest enemies will be down after a few shots from this. Main issue is it goes through energy like there's no tomorrow, so save it for a big fight.
Laser Pistol (1H): energy cell + light diode. You made one of these in the tutorial. It's still pretty dangerous. Just watch your battery.

And there are still even more weapons out there for you to make or find. Keep searching!
I found a bunch of particle accelerators in the area east of landfall.

Just so you know, the areas' locations are randomed with each game.
But erh, concerning the aliens, yes it's a tough location, and iirc not much else there but a bit of stuff, it's mostly interesting for the alien race iirc, as you can steal eggs and whatnot iirc, not sure if you can do this as the other races <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" />
The different races and all are really cool though and their different gameplay styles, not to mention all the different endings.
