Why doesn't Unknown Worlds release a mappack every so often for NS with some new maps? Forgotten Hope managed it successfully.

Yep, and they are played a lot. Most (if not all) servers have it installed. I had a discusion with the head admin of Forgotten Soldiers (Pinball, I'm an admin to). He wants to play custom maps, which are not included in FH official mappack. I said as soon as you change to one of those maps the server will empty, due to "map not found" crap and FS will get a bad rep. This wariness of custom maps is silly if you ask me, but it's not only a problem in the NS community. We have to keep in mind that bf1942 does not have an ingame downloader like hl1. Making it harder to get custom maps into the community. So there should be an edge to for NS to get people to play customs, especially with the remote/ftp downloader link in hl1...

    @ darkATI,

I've reworked my 2nd revised version of Achio from 1 hallway (main computer access, created in 2005 I think) too a full map in about 1.5/3 months, give or take 1 month <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" />

Mind you I did take a heck of a lot longer on the first (abandoned) version. Jan 7 2004 --> aug-05-2004

There are a ton of quality custom maps out there. Ns_mystic and ns_rampage immediately come to mind. Then, for great maps which need some solid reworking before possibly being official: napo, rust, equinox, nirvana, oasis, and a ton im forgetting.

My map, Nexus, has had only bipolar reviews. In terms of gameplay, many people absolutely love it. In terms of learning curve and complexity, some people think its too much. I'm already formulating a way to change the layout to make it much more 'standard' while being able to keep the characteristics that make it so unique. Might even be able to overcome the issues that people are having that may be keeping it from official candidacy.

But there are TONS of maps that could easily be either added to official or put under more serious consideration. Adding three (ns) maps to the roster is awesometastic, but imagine if they added five? Eight? Ten even?

So wait... you're saying that because people are phobic of playing any map other than the core few (Veil, Eclipse, Tanith) we should add MORE maps?

    ...

Why? So people have more maps to ignore? Why add more maps when it's the players that are broken?

Why not make the best of what you've got?

If new maps are added, there's a possibility that at least one of them gets popular. It's definitely worth a shot.
