My humble opinion, "bob" needs a new name

*ducks and covers*
Ok, wtf kind of a name is Bob for a bloodthirsty killing machine. I dont like using it and think the name should be changed. We should all use terms like "lev1" or "chomper" or "spider". Not bob. bob = bad! Just remeber that. Bob = Bad Bob = Bad!!

Now whos with me!

Just keep in mind that there will be official names as well; it just hasn't has been a high priority in the past. 'Bob' is for you forum loonies to use.

Yes but MonsE, what happens in this scenario:
Ingame-
Marine1: Look out, a BOB is coming!
Marine2: Hahahahah whats a bob dumbas-AHHHHH MY JUGULAR!

Its much more offical and atmospheric if you said "Look out a level 1 is coming." If anyone calls it a bob in game, they are getting killed.

I seriously doubt that "Bob" will be the official name of that critter, but I figure pretty much all of the forum community will call him Bob as a pet name.

I'd consider asking Bob what he wants to be called, but then again he has a nickname for me..."Meat."

I've hated that name from the very moment it was introduced. If it could die a quick, painful death I would be very appreciative.

I must admit that I have a gernaral dislike for the name bob because I over use it for everything If I cant think of a good name for something I call it Bob, if theres 2 of them they become bob and harry and three just add harry. Its just too boring maybe if it had a nickname like muffit or Mr.Cranky Id be happyer - but what do I care and what does it matter

Bob isn't his official name, but of course it's the most prevalent one. When we have real names for the aliens in-game (and people are playing) I'm sure Bob won't be the only name you hear.

You won't hear ME calling him Bob (though I admit I slip now and again).

* Imagines a dev team meeting where Flayra keeps having to correct himself whenever he refers to the level 1 alien as 'Bob' *

As an un-offical nickname Bob is as good as any other. I like the idea that B.O.B. stood for something scientific and the grunts had just used the abbreviation as slang. This happens all the time where scientific names are used regularly.

I have a friend called bob and everytime someone says his name i find it amusing because of NS!
I think hes getting paranoid.
And do you really think that ppl will stop using bob as the name for a lvl one? even after the official names are invented....cos i dont, its gonna be bob forever!

-did you just call me lotte?!
-(thinks...) is that a problem?
haha!

anyways:
to infamous: ofcoure everyone will know who bob is.

to the team: promise me the name bob won't be mentioned ONCE in the release.

not that i dislike it...

Hehehe... this is the second attempt to get the name 'changed'. To think he got called it by a two word post I posted.

Anywho, not only do we have sprays, but also backgrounds featuring his name, so it wouldn't make much sense to change his name from that standpoint.

And then, you've got the whole 'Bob is a really cool name for a bloodthirsty killing machine eviscerating humans for the survival of his race' thing.

Ehhh, Bob is not, and never will be, an official name. It's a forum veteran inside joke... revel in your l33tness of knowing it, but don't expect it to show up on any menus.
• BananBanan Join Date: 2002-02-22 Member: 235Members
In fun mode? lol, naah, I understand "bob" would never be used as an official name, but it still would be fun, now, right?
Although calling him bob in the game would be lame (wee&#33
It'd still be fun,
Anyways, where did you get the name "bob"?
im asking this question mostly to moleculor sa he seems to be "the namer of bob",
wow, must be som honour, eh?

I think they must have just been muttering off weird names and Bob stuck. It's not a great name, and not an official name, but it's short and catchy.

And of course it's probably short for "Bad Old Bugger" or something like that

I'm not gonna try and get it pushed one way or another in terms of names, although I'll often refer to him as Tiny Tim, after the character in Dicken's Christmas Carol. I'm just waiting for something 'official' to call him besides L1 (which would translate to "Lee" )

I find it quite amusing...Remember, Military-types usually end up giving weird names to groups of people or creatures "Several Charlies up ahead!"

Plus..lets not forget that police do it, too "We've got two dead John Does'"

Bob is just what I call things that don't have a concrete name, or I can't remember the name of it. Or a general 'John Doe' type thing.

Want the origin of Bob? Here. It's post #68.

I have not, and never will, call bob anything other than bob! Even if there is a cool official name, I still would keep calling him/she/it bob.

I rarely call the alien Bob, it's like calling your dog, "Spot" even if he doesn't have a spot. It's just silly, and you won't catch me saying the name much. Only silly and easily amused people use it *cough* Moleculor *cough*
