<div class="IPBDescription">You know you love it.</div>So all that random stuff I said about no internet connection at uni turned out to be false. My initial worry was moneys, but the loan company had messed up with the thing they'd sent me, and I actually had more money than I needed. And then it turned out the uni hadn't updated the website and the net was free anyway.
However, for some reason, IRC is blocked, and although I used to be supar active on the forums, I haven't been recently. Also, the uni blocked the test-site, so this is the first time I've seen the forums since the last time I saw them.
So yeah, a quick fill in here:
* I have a social life. Limited, but I actually go out with people. PEOPLE! Wow.
* I briefly flirted with the idea of joining the american football team here (the Greenwich Mariners). Although I apparently showed promise as an offensive linesman, I quit 'cos I'm not aggressive enough I don't think.
* I'm living in a flat! On my own! How awesome is that? Totally awesome, that's how awesome.
* My degree is fun and I'm actually enjoying it rather than just tolerating it as I'd feared
* My various social fears have seemingly evaporated and I can quite easily socialise now, much to the confusion of people who knew me before I came to uni.
* I have a friend called Patrick who looks like Mr. T.
So things is going good for me, mostly. How awesome is that? Awesome is what it is. I do miss IRC though. I might finally go down to the office and ask exactly why it's blocked in the first place, when no other chat program is.
Anyway, that's just an update for the 1 or 2 people out there who care, and a semi-amusing list for the people who don't care bust still like reading semi-amusing lists.
Love,
X_Stickman

Working net connection + friends + actually enjoying your college major FTW!
Glad to hear you're doing well, stickman <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile-fix.gif" />
Or maybe it's just that all ports are blocked (hence why you couldn't access the test site) and they're only opening the ones people need, and surprisingly few people actually use IRC compared to, say, Asshat Online or whatever all those other pathetic little programs are called.
Always remember that Internet <i>Service</i> Provider is an oxymoron. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" />

!_!
Sticky, can I touch your shoulder? Maybe the social interaction will rub off and I'll leave my house. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad-fix.gif" />

No one can touch my shoulder. It's the source of my power, much like Samson's hair, only harder to cut off and not as cool looking.
Im also having a great time so far with my college major. Even though im just starting it.
Computer Science is great, I can't wait until I get into the stuff I do not know about.
You could always try using a proxy to access IRC, or try tunnelling. It's super easy (and free).

I think I've already tried both, but I am unsure, due to the fact that I'm an idiot.

People? Never heard of it. Any links to where I can download that shizzle?
Even if they've blocked IRC traffic it's probably likely you'll be able to use an in-browser IRC client.

For a moment in time, I once thought I missed the bottom-feeder mentality of the internet's attempts at being original and funny. That was a really stupid moment.

Overly complicated solution!
Run UltraVNC on your home machine. Make sure that Java Viewer is enabled. Forward necessary ports. Sign up with a dynamic dns service. Then, when you're at work, connect to your computer in your web browser on port 5800. Run your irc client on your home machine.
See? Easy!
Welcome back, glad to see you found a social life. It is a good thing!
