Well I've just seen this today, and to be honest I'm going to be buying this the day it lands on the shelves no matter what. I've been a fan of Total Annihilation, and this just takes it a step beyond. It really looks amazing, the theatre of action is simply huge, you can split your screen as you want to look at different essential places (apparently having widescreen or dual screen will be a plus)... The gameplay still hasn't been very elaborated upon, but fans of TA should rejoice, it looks to be in the same style. I think I'll fall in love with the pre-queuing (I've always hated to build a structure and forgetting later on to do upgrades or units from it) and coordinated attacks: concentrating all your forces to arrive at the same time used to be a pain, not anymore!

This video just confirmed everything I had hoped for, and this game is the RTS to end all RTSes

I'm generally not an rts player, but this could be my way into the genre. I will, however, be waiting for the demo.

Supcom looks pretty damn cool. I can't wait for it to come out either.

Bring on the RTS renaissance! Supcom! Starcraft 2! C&C2!

That looks incredible! I don't want to know the specs though, I doubt my AMD64 2800+ 1gig DDR RAM and GeForce 6800 LE will be able to run it <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad-fix.gif" />

I've been waiting for this one for two years. I'm not sure - does it have destructible terrain?
  • TychoCelchuuuTychoCelchuuu Anememone Join Date: 2002-03-23 Member: 345Members
Nah, no destructable terrain. What it does have are giant six legged robo spiders with huge lasers of death mounted on top, though.

D'aww... so TA Spring still has a minor leg up on SupCom.

My XP2600+/1.5GB DDR/9800 Pro probably won't run it, but I'd be willing to be making the right sacrifices when the time comes.

I've been hearing alot of mixed opinions from people on the spring forum. Most likely much of the bugginess beta testers are complaining about will be fixed by the time they release it, but looking at features alone it really doesn't show off too much that spring doesn't already do as well, if not better. What will really show sup comm's true colors is the game's modding tools, which have yet to be released.

I've been reading Beta impressions at the PA forums. Some people are happy with it and some people aren't. The people who aren't happy say since there's no micro, is basically just boils down to whoever has the most units or the strongest units.

Welcome to every RTS, they all boil down to who has the most units and the strongest units, some just pretend to not be boring by having micromanagement thrown in as well. A common complaint on the spring forums is that you build a bunch of units, send them out, and they just kind of disappear... more or less meaning that it's really hard to pay attention to both the front lines and your inner base at the same time. The inability to drag the main map around the minimap is apparently quite frustrating, even with the zoom in/out feature.

Without actually playing the game I'm going to state that it sounds like GPG did ALOT of the things that I thought they might do wrong, very wrong indeed.

It's not considered C&C2, it is C&C2. I don't know why there would be any confusion about this.

Why is that? TA is one of the best damn rtses ever made. Flashrushes, pel fights and taking down 2-3 mexxes in a row with a bomber is great fun.

Clearly you haven't seen the pros play Warcraft III or Company of Heroes or something like that. It doesn't matter what you do; if you just right click on the bad guys, no matter how many awesome units you have, you're dead.

It's the same game there's just different rules. Micromanagement is important in those games, but not so complicated that it can't be picked up when the economic side of things can be. Ultimately you use micromanagement, but if your economy wanes you are still screwed. The lack of micromanagement doesn't really change the way a game plays, it just changes the amount of time playing with your units as opposed to playing with your base. And I can't imagine that micromanagement has disappeared from the game entirely. When I first picked up spring I thought I didn't like it because it didn't have the micromanagement other RTS have, but the micromanagement is still there, it's just more mature in a simulated environment. Units move slow and can shoot while moving so you have to be alot smarter about your micromanagement, not ignore it entirely. You'll still lose if you ignore micromanagement.

The original Command & Conquer is unofficially known as Tiberian Dawn, and the main series (CnC 1, 2, 3) is known as the "Tiberian series".

Only after reading the article did I realise how much C&C borrows from the dune universe. Quite cool really to place additional backstory to it all.
