<div class="IPBDescription">whats the latest in technology?</div>Ok well honestly I haven't followed the computer technology advances since I've bought my AMD64 3500+ and my radeon 9800XT

I hear that DX10 is coming out right around the corner along with PCI-E 2.0

So my first question is, does anyone have any info of when either of this will finally be released?

What im trying to ask is if i want an upgradable computer in the future should I wait for these new motherboards to be released considering from my understanding PCI-E 2.0 will only work on those mobos and wont work on PCI-E 1.0 mobos

Please shed some light on this for me. I would really love to rebuild a new computer, but if i have to wait longer than a year for this stuff to come out ill just upgrade this computer instead I.E : My videcard is dead lol

any suggestions or light shed on this matter would be appriciated.

In the long run to make this thread short i want to know if its possible PCI-E 2.0 will work on PCI-E 1.0 motherboards and if it all will be DX10 compatiable and with windows vista ect, and if not i guess ill have to wait for all this stuff to come out

This is an AMD 754 board with an AGP8x slot?

Oh and .. PCIE 2.0? Are you kidding. Nothing ever used all that AGP8x bandwidth and then PCI-E cards were released, I don't see the point of further increasing that bandwidth.

There is none, except that it will allow the 3rd PCI-e 16x slot more bandwidth so that the 3rd graphics card can be used more efficiently as a co-proccessor in the new crossfire setup.

"vista compatability" is a gimmick, I saw it on a sempron64 2800's box the other day, take ATi's drivers for instance, anything from a 9500 upwards is supported in their vista drivers. However it wouldn't surprise me if even 8500's will be supported by microsofts own drivers. It would be a case of cutting of their nose to spite their face otherwise.

DX10 on the otherhand, I'm not sure, it may take games developers a while to start really producing good dx10 games, like with dx9. I would also be shocked if initial games didn't support dx9. Again, it would be cutting of their nose to spite their face.

Companies aren't daft, they know only a small percentage will have a dx10 card, and that the majority will have cards that are dx8, and those fx numbers that could barely do dx9. They also know the majority of users will not have 64bit cpu's. Technology moves faster than consumers do.
