i find it funny how we have a much higher server:player ratio, makes me feel good.

Pffft... this mod was more hyped-up than Java. (*reflects on that*)

Give it a couple weeks to a month - it'll cool down. I remember when DoD had 2-300 servers at any point in time. Now NS & DoD have similar #s of servers.

DoD & NS are very similar (in their ways): Both have astounding graphics and gameplay. Neither mod reeks of n00b quality (*points to Digital Paintball*).

However, the lag will drive people away.. Fix that and you have a mod that would put DoD on the run.

Beanhead: they ARE working on the lag. And regarding DoD compared to NS. I think that NS will not suffer the fate of DoD's diminishing servers and players, because NS's gameplay and overall strategy is MUCH more complex than DoD, in saying that I am not saying that DoD is NOT complex, it is, but it's quite evident that NS beats DoD in style and complexity hands down, the sheer possibility of an "unrealistic" environment allows NS to be 100x more dynamic than any other games that are shooting for realism.

It IS probably due in part to the "newness" but if they can get the balancing all worked out NS will keep going strong, no doubt.

NS currently has less than half the amount of servers as DoD currently, and it's mainly because server providers can only manage one with the CPU usage (or none, even). Based on all the praise (and you can't say that it's not a hell of a lot of praise) I think NS can only grow. I mean, the IRC channels been averaging 2-300 constantly for over a week now. I've never heard of any other mod experiencing quite as long of a 'hype period' as this.

I would just add that there is currently nothing like NS either. DoD (in my mind at least) is alot like 99.99% of other HL mods (including CS, SI, FLF, TFC etc) in that its basically team-death match oriented games with a little variety thrown in - granted S&I tried to shift from the norm by having research. Its not like NS is really competing with another NS-ish mod. I bet we'll start seeing NS clones in a year much like CS had once it started really taking off. Of course, by then, NS will be even better and they will just be shoddy rip offs with less dev time

Complexity in your mod can bite you in the **obscenity**. Look at Science & Industry (a mod i love to play BTW), its a well polished mod with lots of gameplay innovations and game strategy (nearly endless strategy) and its been out for 2 years and can barely scrounge up 20 servers a day, sad really. I think most HLers would just rather connect to a random Cstrike server and let the duck/burst fire begin.

Why bother ducking, use an AK *laughs*

Anyone remember The Opera? I loved that mod and there are NO, repeat, NO set servers. *cries*

The Opera is moving to the UT2K3 engine, can you imagine that mod with the ragdoll physics engine?

I may have to get ut2k3 just for The Opera

How about firearms? I just love the customization you can do in that mod.
• RambozoRambozo Join Date: 2002-11-09 Member: 7859Members
I like firearms really, the game play is pretty good.

Except for when the famas **obscenity** come out.... then its just like CS with AWP/AK/DE.

Firearms lacks visual quality though... NS feels like I went and bought a new game
off the shelf, and for free? Can't beat that ANY day.
