<div class="IPBDescription">I suck at titles and descriptions</div>We all knew this day would come, friends. When I first started playing Natural Selection, I was merely a 6ft tall boy in secondary school. Now I'm a 6ft 4 <b>man</b> (yes I am shut up), and tomorrow I leave for university.
So why is this a goodbye? Well, as I've repeatedly mentioned in the IRC channel, the internet costs at the place I'm staying are ridiculous, considering that P2P and online gaming is blocked (I know there are various work-arounds that I can use but I frankly can't be arsed), so the chances of me wasting money (which is already tighter than a pair of Britney Spears' jeans) on it are fairly low.
So at the very least, I am going to be online a hell of a lot less than I usually am (i.e. all the feckin' time). There is free computer access in the Uni library, which has internet access, but because I am not a Computing student I do not get my own user area on the Uni network (as far as I know, I suppose they might give me 50mb personal space or something, but it's not mentioned), and it's likely to be monitored, so I'm not going to be on IRC any more. And frankly I've never trusted public computers with my login details, so chances of me using that to post on these forums are low as well.
I have had fun in this community, and it was the first community that I was extremely active in (puzl and some others may remember the RaDoX forums, where I was relatively active, and the Jarhedz community, but compared to the sheer amount of time spent on these forums and the IRC channels, it's nothing really), and the reason for that is because it's so utterly awesome, with awesome people all over the place.
I'm not sure if I can be considered truely "old skool" here yet. I don't consider myself "nu skool", but I am a relative newcomer compared to the old timers around here. I was given a custom title and peon in the channel simply for making random stupid comments ("I'm not good enough for a custom title <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad-fix.gif" />" for the title, and regailing the channel with a story of an old woman who sat on my lap on the bus, despite not saying and word and me never having met her before for the peon), so maybe I'm the NS jester or some crap like that.
Self promotion aside, this is a goodbye, so... y'know, bye. I shall miss you all, except the people I hate, and you know who you are. I won't miss you.

P.S
Due to my lack of internets, I may not be able to post christmas cards to those who give me their address like I did last year. If anyone still wants one, P.M your address to me on the forums A.S.A.P (computer is going with me, it'll be the last thing I pack, but it won't be long now), and I'll write it down and take it with me. Unless your address is about to change, in which case write down the address you'll have around christmas time. If you don't know what it'll be, give me a random address and I'll send it to "<name>, America" through Royal Mail. Let's see how good they are.

Goodbye.
In other words, Stickman is just a teenage rabbit dazzled in the headlights of the oncoming university, and once he settles in, it'll be business as usual.
I don't buy it. My guess is a net savvy female starwars fan will sign up on the forums next week as stickman completes his personality transformation. The account will be called Smurfette, and it will take Off-Topic by storm.

Believe me, I am not doing this because I want to leave and have a social life. If that were the case, I wouldn't announce it. I honestly think I am going to have serious difficulty in terms of money just paying the rent (and food, and the inevitable nights out etc...), along with travel expenses plus course books and so on. I doubt I'll have room to pay for a net connection for at the very least a month.
LOTS more room.
See you 'round, Stickdude. PM your address so I can send a card to you. I've seem to of misplaced all my cards I had collected. Hope everything works out for you in life. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin-fix.gif" />
Bye bye Stick!
We'll miss ya man.
#1 is to use a "portable" web browser on a USB memory drive. By "portable" I don't just mean your bookmarks get saved, I mean your cookies, cache, etc. don't even end up on the PC you're using. <a href="http://portableapps.com/" target="_blank">this site</a> may help explain that & has downloadable examples.
#2 is "U3," a more commercial system that supposedly accomplishes the same thing, with any program you can get to fit on the USB device. I've never seen it used, only seen it advertised, so I can't comment on whether it works, or whether it's worth the extra cost you may have to pay for a compatible USB drive. <a href="http://www.u3.com/" target="_blank">http://www.u3.com/</a> is the link to that.
Whichever way you choose, there's certainly options that'll let you stop by in the forums or IRC from time to time to say hi <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile-fix.gif" />
Of course, I'm not sure why I paid for the internet when I lived in a dorm room (it blocked gaming ports and P2P...their excuse for the gaming ports? You could p2p download with them...)...the only advantage to a computer lab is that I didn't have to leave my dorm to email people. I'm sure there's some 3 year old post somewhere on this forum complaining about it. It should really be cheaper either way, here it costs $50 for a semester of 'high-speed' (ie, if you're downloading from microsoft, sony, google or yahoo website) internet.
Anyway, have fun at college - make sure you do stuff with people in the dorms that first day...otherwise you might be bored until one of the crazy ones does something obnoxious right outside your door.
...and prepare for, among other things, the firealarms at 3 in the morning on Monday nights (...unless this isn't an American university, or a dorm).
You know, a majority of universities (I'd hope...you know...all of them) have computer labs, where you can peruse the internet at your leisure. And despite whatever problems you may have with internet gaming a p2p - you can still be a resource hoarding gorge in NS with a ping of 400ms.

3am Firealarms are commonplace in the UK too, perhaps different reason (unless the reason is stupidity - which is indeed the case here xD)

Yea, that's pretty much it. I'd say maybe 1 in 10 fire alarms is actually some sort of fire (that is, a ramen noodle caught on fire in the community kitchen or something). There's far worse things than the fire alarm...I've got all kinds of stories.
Buckets of water on ropes, someone peeing on people's doorknobs, someone throwing a bowling ball down the hall at 4 in the morning and, of course, the ...<i>pice de rsistance</i> : someone taking a dump in one of the drinking fountains...
Oh yes, the joys of dorm life.
(I believe there's also the story of some guys filling up a condom with water in one of the RA's rooms, which essentially is impossible to move since it holds so much water without breaking...and hence needed to be broken in place - this I did not witness in person, however)
