Something to help mappers and bring more variety into the game

<div class="IPBDescription">With just a few entities</div>So right now, we've got standard NS gameplay and CO. Fine, no problem - But don't you ever want some variety? How about a map where Marines have to set the self destruct on an Alien-infested ship? Or where the Aliens have to destroy a computer in a lab before they develop a new, deadly weapon? What about Marines defending a computer working on just that weapon? This simple idea allows for an almost infinite variety of gamemodes, meaning that there will ALWAYS be a new, fresh, original custom map for download. Maybe these things could be incorporated into officla maps as well. Anyway, the idea:

First, a victory entity. This, when triggered, will give victory to either Aliens or Marines. Just this will allow for many different game modes to be introduced with every single map, but some may require...

...Pre-placed buildings. If mappers could place chambers and marine structures in hammer, they could create situations whereby aliens need to play smart rather than just charging in. This would include objects like jetpacks, HA and weaponry. This would also mean...

...Research that was already available. How about a well-equipped marine squad, with full upgrades and no respawns fighting through waves of respawning skulks to reach a self destruct button, and escape with their lives?

So, with just a few changes to the SDK, a more or less infinite number of ways to play NS could be concieved of by mappers. Note that these changes would not have any effect on maps unless the mapper chose to use them. There is no disadvantage to including this whatsoever, and the advantages are limitless.

Cool idea, but I don't think NS is modular enough to easily implement this, perhaps it's something for NS:S

Couldn't you just drop some map entities that can be destroyed to trigger an event to blow up the cc?

    Hmm...

Marine team defending one of Mendasp's Revolving Door Of Doom?

So you bassically want to create maps like StarCraft/WarCraft 3's "Use Map Settings"?

Having not played either of those, I can safely say: Maybe.

Yeah, this is indeed a good idea. One of my favourite game modes in Aliens vs Predator 2 was Evacuation. Likewise, the best moments I had with UT2004 were with the Assault game mode - both had tasks you had to complete in succession (well in AvP2 only one task - escape insectoid killing machines and get to evac point) and it made you feel the things you did had a bigger purpose.

As someone noted in a post I made into another thread, the Kharaa are bacterial life forms. And bacteria evolves quickly. So these mission-based maps or versions of maps wouldn't even have to play on the same rules as far as, say, Kharaa capabilities go. Let's imagine a Skulk who's stowed away on a big freighter - only this Skulk is special. He's a bit slower than his regular brethen, maybe by 75%, but his ability more than makes up for this disadvantage - he's able to implant a "spore" into a dead human and fashion the corpse into sort of an egg. He lops off a freighter worker and makes himself a brother out of the poor guy. The freighter crew report this and call for Frontiersmen assistance.
So basically you'd have two Skulks against a team of marines. If you caught a marine alone you could take him out and, make an egg out of him. He would then hatch as a Seeder Skulk <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin-fix.gif" /> as well, and therefore join the Kharaa team.
