[NS:S] Building on Surfaces

<div class="IPBDescription">A possible way to make buildings stick...</div>For marines a builder would get special spikes that he can attach to the ceiling or walls and then pick up a small building package that can be mounted and then built on the wall like a turret...

As for aliens they could have an attack like webs that would splatter a gooey substance that attaches to a surface and a gorge can build a building on top of it. It could also be used to splatter marines and create a web-like effect that slows marines down... of course this should take up a lot of energy on the gorge's part...

Building on walls and ceilings should be possible in the HL:S engine...

I like this idea, but I think it'd make it too easy to completely block off an area to attack, especially for the aliens. Marines build three turrets accross the floor, then three up the wall, then three accross the ceiling (or whatever the size of the corridoor calls for) and it's gonna be nearly impossible for an alien to get through (whereas now a skulk can leap over it, a fade can blink and a lerk can fly). For the marines this'd be less trouble because they have longer ranged weapons (to stay out of the OCs range) and weapons that can fire through/around walls (like siege turrets and GLs).

Like I said though, I'd love to see alien growths sticking out of all surfaces, but I honestly can't see the need for it really.

well if not all the alien chambers, then maybe specialized chambers used for attacking or like the sporemine plug-in except it drops from the ceiling...

as for marines blocking off corridors with buildings or even aliens this could be prevented by creating a build structure with a certain configuration. Think of a ceiling fan lamp that has more than one lightbulb. The actual fan is the TF and the lightbulbs the turrets. So this would limit the number of turrets allowed to prevent spamming in a more configurable pattern and build limits in a certain radius should be enforced.

Perhaps maps that could possible have this blocking problem be corrected by making the points a bit more open or have "no-build" zones on them to prevent this type of exploit.

Try to keep it simple- I'd say the main reason for lack of new NSPlayers is that it's too hard for them to get into the game.

I also think aliensstructres should be placable on walls and ceilings. Its the part of the aliens to do weird stuff and to be strange and fearsome. I think an OC farm at the high and dark ceiling of hall with alienslime dropping from it does this job ~~

But marine structures should only be placable on the ground. Reasons:

    - Without jp its almost impossible to build structures at the ceiling.
    - Commander could have problems with placing buildings
    - Marines are human beeings and no flys, their technology is groundbased. Thats why they have artificial gravity on their ships <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink-fix.gif" />
