info on console cmnds.
hey guys, i was wanting to know what all this stuff about rates is? supposedly it increases your FPS??? or decreases lag or something, this would be quite useful for me.
there are also (so i have heard) commands for runspeed and stuff???
SO this is what i would like to know if you could oblige me:
- Runspeed commands
- rates (and what are they)(what do they do)
- commands for raising gamma (i think "lightgamma 0" does something...)
- scroll (mouse speeds)(what do they do)
- what are the binds for the alien taunts?
plz inform me of these commands, they sound interesting and just plain helpful...

I think I'm right in saying:
- rate is the maximum data transfer rate (in bytes/s) you recieve from the server
- cl_cmdrate is the number of packets per second you send to the server
- cl_updaterate is the number of updates (or packets) per second you wish to recieve from server
These need to be set according to your particular connection AND according to the maxiumum values allowed by the server you are playing on.
Setting the rates changes the way your connection handles sending / receiving information from the server. If you have low rates you will send / receive less - but this is good for a lower connection so you don't overload it.
I find that just playing around with the values will eventually allow you to find a setting that suits you
Runspeed
No idea, perhaps you're thinking of ways to move faster in NS - bunnyhopping (which you can probably find several guides for on these forums somewhere) and wigglewalking?
Gamma
Now, I don't know much about this, but no matter what I alter in game regarding gamma / brightness, nothing changes. I have to change the settings on my video card in order to be able to see things. As far as I know, lightgamma has a set minimum of 2, but I'm probably wrong
Scroll
Erm, you mean sensitivity? Bring down the console and type sensitivity - change it to whatever feels best for you. Some people use the mouse scroll button to help them bunnyhop and stuff like that.
Taunt
You can use alien taunt by doing this: open NS and go to Options > Keyboard > scroll down to "Communication" and assign a key to "Taunt". You can use the other alien sounds (heal me, follow me, chuckle) by using the in-game menu or by assigning keys in the options

mmm, lightgamma is defaulted to "lightgamma 2.5"
but apart from that, thankyou
forward, back, and side have been removed from NS, upspeed can only be set as high as the server permits.
