This Movie Is Beautiful.
<div class="IPBDescription">Like, Wow.</div> <img src='http://drine.neufblog.com/photos/uncategorized/eternal_sunshine.jpg' border='0' alt='user posted image' />
"This is the story of a guy, Joel (Jim Carrey),who discovers that his long-time girlfriend, Clementine (Kate Winslet),has undergone a psychiatrist's (Tom Wilkinson)experimental procedure in which all of her memory of Joel is removed, after the couple has tried for years to get their relationship working fluidly. Frustrated by the idea of still being in love with a woman who doesn't remember their time together, Joel agrees to undergo the procedure as well, to erase his memories of Clementine. The film, which takes place mostly within Joel's mind, follows his memories of Clementine backwards in time as each recent memory is replaced, and the procedure then goes on to the previous one, which is likewise seen, and then erased. Once the process starts, however, Joel realizes he doesn't really want to forget Clementine, so he starts smuggling her away into parts of his memory where she doesn't belong which alters other things about his memories as well..."
Now, I usually shy away from most romance movies, because, let's face it, most romace movies are the same thing in different themes. They're predictable, and thus they suck. But I had heard some good things about this movie, and I do enjoy movies where Jim Carrey has a more serious role (The Majestic and Man on the Moon), so I picked it up at Blockbuster the other day.
Holy ****, my friends. At one point suring the movie, I was watching it by myself (because mom doesn't like Jim and dad was tired), and I literally paused the movie, and said "Wow." I'm pretty sure I experienced every various emotion that a romace should make you feel, and then some. Seriously, go see it. It's original, unique, genius, deep, hilarious, saddening, joyous...It's flipping entertaining.
Oh, and the acting was good too. Or at least, I couldn't tell if it was bad, because I was too busy being very entertained.
It won the Oscar for Best Writing in 2004, and rottentomatoes.com gives it a 93%. I loved this movie so much, I just may have to buy it.

This isn't so much of a romance really. There's a lot more to it than that. Its just a heart warming amazing movie.
He's a really clever guy and I recommend his films. He does tend to shy away from the darker emotions, though, and in some ways that can be annoying if you're looking for a film that is more "serious."

If it hasn't got as much angst as a Linkin Park CD then it ain't worth watching!
Nothing quite like looking into her beautiful eyes, turning away, and then when you look back her face is gone, right? =D Yeah, the dreaminess of it all is so awesome. I love the part where theyre in the airport and all the people around them start getting sucked into the ground.
Almost everyone you know sucks. It was great.
not my kind of film atall. its just ridiculous. and it did my head in. it did have good acting.. and i can see why it would appeal to some.. it feels like a more dark romance? kind of film...
Other films which i found to be crap said to be 'dark'

Garden State
Duuuuude it's not supposed to be realistic. Like when you watch Star Wars, you don't ask why the lightsabers work, you just accept it.
Some part of the memory removal required him to be actively recalling the memory. So he would force himself to remember something else, so they wouldn't be able to figure out what he was remembering and would have to stop the process.

yeah but still, how can you take a memory to another?
*SPOILER!!!*
when he takes the memory to the memory of him hiding under the table, wouldnt that ruin the original memory?
(Yeah, I know its a little weak, but it was a great movie though)
