Video Quality Problems

Well whenever I go to play any type of video file outside of Firefox/IE, the image gets really, really messed up. It's sort of like someone cranked up the gamma nad brightness until the video's quality is so poor, it burns to look at it. This happens with every filetype BUT QuickTime format. QuickTime's videos are crisp and clear as ever. What do you think the problem is? I have the latest drivers for my video card and I have the latest DirectX.

Already tried it. Still doesn't work. Same result for Windows Media Player and Winamp.
Hope that works for you, at least with avis. If anyone has a solution for wmv/mpg, post it!
EDIT: a bit of googeling found a solution. On colour correction chose "all" instead of "desktop".
