You'll be interested to know that mp_teamplay has been adjusted, whereas a player's friendly fire damage will be mirrored back to him.

I also intend to add some GOOD custom maps tonight. not to worry, rapid download is enabled.

GG all, although I spent most of my afternoon workign on scripts etc, so I really played poorly.

Mirror damage is a poor idea imo. Just overpowers spies.
• GeminosityGeminosity :3 Join Date: 2003-09-08 Member: 20667Members
how does it overpower them? :/

Here's the problem with spydom;

FF on - Your teammates kill you half the time
FF off - People just shoot all their teammates on sight and throw explosives with wreckless abandon (kinda like our FF on games :s )
Mirror FF - People test shoot people... if you don't get hurt it's a spy :o

The best thing ever was in wiz wars where the ice mage (almost exactly the same as the spy) can go invis if they keep still; only downside is that it drains mana :p
Oh and they have a tele-bomb so they can get around better though if you use it while carrying the flag you leave the flag behind ^^;

As mentioned in the server, it's imperative that spies have a key bound to voice. Then when they're amongst friendlies they simply key their mic, and your mates will see the voice icon above your head, saving your life. The enemies of course won't see it.

This is how we did it when I played competitively years back.
• CrispyCrispy Jaded GD Join Date: 2004-08-22 Member: 30793Members, Constellation
OK perhaps not overpowering spies but underpowering Snipers (maybe not a bad thing, but I like a bit of a snipe every so often when there's another good Engy on my team ).

Sound solution but you need alert teamies to avoid instagibbing yourself when you fire from the other side of a bridge

Even I was a better spy than you! I capped the flag so many more times on well than you did.

Cappin' the flag is nice, but it's much more fun knifing as a spy. :>

coris... I didn't even try to get the flag; I just backstabbed people so nyeah :p
If I'd tried to get the flag then you might have grounds to compare ~makes faces~

Is backstabbing just rtunning behind people and *stab stab*ing them?

Is it a one hit kill?

That is all.
• HWGuy_in_a_CanHWGuy_in_a_Can Join Date: 2003-02-10 Member: 13397Members
Yeah, it's supposed to be one-hit kill.

Normally a stab in the back (from a spy) is a one hit kill. May take 2 stabs if you miss the sweet spot or it's a heavy. :>

====================================================

The server will be up most of the day. When it's not up it will be on Combat Territory, so regardless - come join the fun.

To those of you interested, and as already mentioned, friendlyfire damage is now mirrored (I wish NS had the ability to do this) back to the source.

If you disagree with this method, I have been successful in locating a good plugin for punishing tee-kayers. So ya'll tell me which way you'd prefer it.
• pieceofsoappieceofsoap Join Date: 2002-11-21 Member: 9535Members, Constellation
Ugh, every time I play on a server with mirror damage, people end up thinking its a good idea to play in my napalm. "Oh, its only fire, it doesnt hurt that much" while I may be at 17 health, on the other side of the map.
• DepotDepot The ModFather Join Date: 2002-11-09 Member: 7956Members
So FryBaby, you'd be in favor of the TK-Punishment plugin then?
• GeminosityGeminosity :3 Join Date: 2003-09-08 Member: 20667Members
you do realise soap that with a TK punish plugin people may just end up killing you anyways right? At least with the mirror you have a survival chance ^~
• DepotDepot The ModFather Join Date: 2002-11-09 Member: 7956Members
I just adjusted the mirror damage (untested as of yet) whereas the teammate AND you will receive half damage in ALL areas. I think this is better than full mirror.

/me waves wildly at Gem... :>
• pieceofsoappieceofsoap Join Date: 2002-11-21 Member: 9535Members, Constellation
Id be in favor or armor damage, or just normal FF. Its not like any of us are malicious TKers.

I prefer full ff and no punish plugin. (at least it worked out pretty well on friday )

fask... it worked well for you; meanwhile I was getting killed by both teams unrepentantly :p

Let's face it; the simple fact is you're supposed to be careful with your attacks and not throw nades indiscriminantly. Since everyone just respawns however few really care much if half their team gets caught in the crossfire so I think some kinda of punishment helps ^^

In my defence I'd just like to get off the bottom of the frigging rankings but while I'm effectively fighting against everyone on the server as opposed just the enemy team I can't see that happening.
It's hard to be a spy when the map is just one giant permanent explosion :s

Ouch.

Well I'll be on today I guess. Just beware the 300 ping of doom that I have
It's been a long while since I've played though, so the only map I really remember is 2fort (shameful I know)

For the record I enjoy playing....*dundundun* Pyro

Gem, don't put a LOT of stock into the rankings, I'm not even in the Top 15 list. And rememebr back a couple of days on avanti, I absolutely PWND.

We all have good days and bad days, and most of us still haven't gotten our groove back.

I know... it just gets frustrating to know I'm effectively playing the game on nightmare mode and getting 0 reward for my efforts :p

I just keep convincing myself there's some trick to the spy I'm missing or forgot that makes all the bugs and problems of the class seem like nothing.
Admittedly it has been a long time since I was the spy of dewm I remember though XD

edit: so far my experience can be summed up in three events...

1) an HWGUY runs into our base and takes on two people defending. I flick round behind him and eviserate him with a backstab and after he dies the two teammates just keep firing anyways and gun me down despite the badguy dying in an explosion of gib all of 3 seconds ago :/

2) I notice the enemy flag in a capture point game lying about and play dead next to it. Someone in my team runs over and stands on me then beats me to death with a melee weapon. All this time I keep wondering "if I was an enemy spy why would I just leave the flag which we need lying here instead of using it to cap the point?"

3) While standing amongst my fellow teammates disguised as a different class (still our team though) one of them starts shooting me. I look over at them annoyed and they open fire fully. I swing my knife disabling my disguise yet for some reason the fact I've uncloaked revealing I'm a spy on their team they stilll keep firing until I have to resort to trying to backstab them and end up dying :p

Note that on all 3 I got an apology afterwards but it's really frustrating all the same -.-
