Windows Xp And 3.5" Floppies
<div class="IPBDescription">I havent got one.</div> Well, windows xp insists that i have a 3.5" floppy. Well, I dont. Even if I remove it manually from the hardware manager, or whatever it's called in english, the floppy will be "back" next time i reboot. This annoys me because it makes My Computer open up several seconds slower because it's searching for a non-existing floppy. Has anyone got a clue how I can remove the "ghost floppy" permanently?
Comments
just set it to your primary CD, then your hard disk
Although I'm not one to judge, you're an idiot for not having a 3.5"
Why? Who use them anyway?

Agreed coris.
Floppydisks are only history.
And yes, there will be something in your BIOS to stop your puter searching for a non-existant floppy drive, although I forget what it's called. For my particular BIOS its under "Advanced BIOS features" and its called something like "floppy drive auto-search" or something.
And yes coris, it's fixable by going into your bios.
Technology necromancy ... shame on you! <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->

not really. It's still useful for programs like hard drive tools if you don't want to burn a CD-RW... or instal xp on a sata drive <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->
Or if you need to update your BIOS to another version. Isn't that only do-able with a floppy?
I do the same too! I even re-format using a floppy <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/confused-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused-fix.gif' /><!--endemo--> <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->
You know, I have about a hundred of them stored in a floppy drawer. You wouldn't believe what I have in there. There's like...Matinee, Paperport, them old Microsoft Expert programs, and ye olde dodgy mouse drivers. Then of course, there's the random floppy which my brother hides his....stuff in it.
To boon, somebody in the house decided to have a sense of humor with the coloured ones and placed them in the back. The back now looks like someone had fun with tie dye.
Mmmmm what to do with these....
...I think that was actually accomplished by ZIP disks, since floppies are over 20 years old. I've got some games in a box somewhere that are floppies, one where you're a bird, really old mario bros. (no super <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo--> )...maybe frogger or something.
I think you all mean ZIP drives...as I haven't even seen a floppy drive in a computer for 7 years (the one my mom bought in 1998 doesn't even have one). Although, inspecting my My Computer, it says it's a floppy drive...even though ZIP disks aren't floppy at all (well, the inside is <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo--> ).
...Giant floppies for the win!
(despite having no working computer to run them)
How can you play the awsome DOS games like BattleBugs or Strike Squad?

Never heard of 'em, therefore don't need floppies. <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->
Not to mention that in Comp Sci, my assignments requires me to hand in with a floppy disk.
