<div class="IPBDescription">waffles.</div> I had put this foward a while ago as my submission for an official LMG model replacement. It was, of course rejected. I Dont remember why actually.

Im gonna see about skinning it, And afterwards Ill see If I can get someone to slap in onto the default LMG animations, cause I, again, cant output to HL format anymore.

Awesome, I could do some animations if need be since i got a whole week off work -again- :/
My bet is it was rejected because of useless attachment <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->

Now, watch this thread turn into the usual spamfest of 'zomg!' ^_^

very nice, but i believe it looks too modern day to go into ns.

I dont want to get into this arguement again, but put it side by side with the current LMG model. then tell me that.

perhaps i need to see it with a skin, but to me it looks like the sights are to modern. but thats just my one opinion in a world of billions. i do find it very nice though. it could quite possibly fit well into the game if the skin was done right.

Tis a nice concept, but I donno, it lacks something.
  • ThatamosThatamos Join Date: 2004-11-05 Member: 32643Members
    It lacks any futuristic features.

I'm not going to try and hurt feelings here Brig, I love your models and am a big fan, but to me it seems too modern. This is my take on this :

The Grenade launcher looks like a modified m203 launcher, but who knows, the grenade launcher probbly never will be improved on since it's fine as it is.

The basic design automatically reminds me of a hybrid between a M4A1 and the current LMG.

I also don't see any hints of a futuristic deisgn, such as a LED screen showing Ammo and such. But that might be a bit stereotypical.

I'm trying to see it through your shoe's Wolf, but I still get those verdicts. Maybe some slight modifications?

Sights are sights. I chose to use Butterfly sights like FN's older Legere models. Anyway. Ive done the comparison for you. And given the lmg a similar paintjob just to be fair.

As for missing something.. I dunno, i was purposely trying to be minimal considering its a default weapon.

    I like it, it's nice and simple. I dont think saying something isnt modern makes sense. <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->
It doesnt need flashing strobe lights, I like the simple design. I'd like to see how the skin will come out.

its got a nice design to it, though I agree with it feeling a bit modern, but thats not gonna stop me from using this kick **** model =)

I reckon the stock gives it the modern feel, I guess, i'm just use to seeing collapsable stocks thats all

Simply close in the rear grip to the stock and make the closed in part of the grip looked curved and you got a instant futureistic look to it, but I think its fine as it is.

always liked brigs stuff, simple, but at the technical side complex, very plausible and even real life functional. unlike other weapon models wich try to force a futuristic look with useless features, and turn out complete inpreactical at the end.
nice one my friend, good to see you back <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

you had a few consepts better then this one brig, I remember looking over you FTP, loose the m203 fetish hehe I love your past stuff so ill say just that.

seeing your model makes me wonder why the armory upgrades hand grenades instead of a m203 like attachment to the LMG that would do same same ammount of dmg as a hand grenade.

a m203 style launcher would propell the grenade farther that you would be able to toss it (duh) and the more stretched trajectory would make it possible to get aimed, direct impact grenade hits... uhm... i would see that as major advantage opposite to handgrenades..uhm... and changing tha hand grenade model to a m203 style launcher would maybe add a nice touch, but would just look odd..lol..

"your grenade launcher....... he throws grenades like a pussie"

    Hahahahahahaha.

As Sheena said before I could, your designs have always been solidly grounded in reality, with few [<i>if any</i>] flights of fancy.

I think what makes people think it looks "modern" is that it looks like it really could work. Then again, so did the M41-A. But that's not a bad thing by any stretch.

It's very nice, but doesn't fit the style used for every marine weapon, building and player model already in the game, so for it to be used as an official replacement, I would think you'd need to simultaneously propose replacements for every marine model so you can maintain a stylistic unity. I imagine their concern might have had something to do with that, but I may be wrong. Also, your skinning style doesn't match any of the textures anywhere in the game, which would be another concern. Everything's very organic, whereas your skins would contrast a great deal by being very plastic.

And the model appears higher-poly than the default, which they made low-poly in order to work with a broader range of older computers.

None of that makes it bad on its own, of course. It's still one of the better custom models for the game.

Crap. Sorry. My crappy satelite modem's Web acceleration was down, so nothing was loading.

the carrying handle looks to fragile compared to the m16.
  • Wolf_KahlerWolf_Kahler Join Date: 2002-11-29 Member: 10252Members
It may be getting used as more of a protection for the rear sight than a carry handle, considering its use as a CQB weapon in areas where you can't let your guard down at any time.

    But that's a crap explanation.

It does look a little flimsy.

    Welcome back...

Model looks nice, although the grenade launcher doesn't really do it. I'm gonna say a masterkey would be nice, but you've already commited to the gren. Maybe since it's sorta carbiney/small, a forgrip or even held by the mag might be an idea when it comes to animation. The carry handle does indeed look slightly flimsy, but then again it's better than nothing.

It reminds the casual gamer too much of an M16, instead of a L324 Pulsar whatever the **** gun. I don't know. I don't like it as much as the default.

Why whine about the modernity of this weapon? It lacks futuristic look because you people watch too much Alien and other Sci-fi films.
Modern weaponry works, so why change them?
Only thing that would change modern looking weaponry to a futuristic looking weapon is probably if we came up with smaller weapons with higher accuracy and smaller yet more lethal rounds.
Or if we come up with laser/plasma (whatever) kind of weapon.
Those would probably look alot different.
A more futuristic look doesnt really serve any purpose.

I think NS needs more modern looking weapons, yet different from modern weaponry.

This is an incredible model, its almost as if it has "Natural-Selection" written all over it.
Its just awesome in every way.
I dont have a clue of who the creator is, but you are brilliant.
And since everyone else says welcome back, so do I!
    Welcome back!

I believe he's designed and modeled all his own models. Except for the stuff he did for RE:TE, which was all based on real stuff. But he has real-world military experience. I think I remember something about being in the armoury or somesuch? So he knows guns. Massive numbers of them, inside and out.
