    Had he used an emulator <i>at all</i>, you would've noticed graphical glitches and slowdown. There is no "use of emulator hacks/bugs" or "emulatent" (whatever that is).

    I didn't even know you could do the backwards long jump thing before I saw the speedrun, but I used to do the forwards long jump/stairs thing all the time, although your speed isn't unlimited when you go forwards, obviously. Anyway, the rate at which he does it does not by any means require a third party controller... Unless you have arthritis or something.

    Really? I've never heard of a speedrun that takes twice as long as beating the game normally before. XD

    Yeah, I believe the last HL speedrun I saw was closer to 45 or 50 minutes. Speedruns of 7 or 8 or 9 hours seem more typical of games like the GTA series.

    If this is the new Mario 64 16 star run that was posted on SDA a week or so ago, i've not bothered to watch it. I watched the last one which was something like 1 minute slower, so that'll do.

    But speedrunning is awesome. SDA appears to be down right now, but it's updated with new runs every few days.

    laff

    I can do that right now on my N64 laying around without any of that garbage, probably can't speed run it like that, but I used to do that jump constantly.

    SDA don't accept emulated runs because that invites all sorts of methods of cheating and the like. This is a run done on the N64 itself, recorded on VHS, and taken from there. And considering it's a single segment run (Sure, only 20 minutes, but still), making a run that's absolutely flawless is nigh-on impossible.

    The gyst i get from reading the forums is that you run it numerous times (After months of practice and research) and as small mistakes and such are bound to happen, you just kinda take the best one you can.

    However, i'm just assuming this is the 16 star run that i've seen already and also the one posted on SDA, but the time sounds right, and the inclusion of the door skipping bug makes it sound moreso like the one i've seen.

    That Quake run owns the M64 one,cos I don't think he used any glitches. <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    It was legit, this wasn't slowed down. The button mashing is totally possibly on a regular controller.

    Run hit crouch[Z on N64, R on DS] then jump[A on N64 and DS].

    An exploit on an emulated version, not sure if it happens in a legit version.

    But emulated runs, generally, and kinda fun to watch, but i prefer to watch people do proper runs on their native console, and also it removes any kind of exploiting of the emulator to do things the console just wasn't capable of.

    That's just too easy. I musta known how to do that... I don't remember it at all though. Man I might give this speed run a go when I get back to the UK, I think I'm up to it.

    Someone remind me in a month and a half's time... <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    ---

    I'll need to know a few things, though. When long-jumping and then stomp-jumping to stop at the desired spot, the guy also manages to quickly come out of the stomp jump and carry on running. How?

    The backwards stairs thing = simply backwards long-jumping at a much-increased rate?
