Well, I've worked my way past shock and denial, which I was in when I made the <a href='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=95661&st=0' target='_blank'>roll-call</a> thread. I am currently at <i>cold, hard rage</i>. I'm glad you're okay. I hope everyone you know is all right, too.

The emergency services seem to be doing a commendable job, though.

    I'm actually what you'd call a yank, <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->.

I was wondering how you guys are taking this. I know I would have felt a bit better if someone asked me what I'd thought about 9/11.

...Whoops. I thought you were. ;D

I think it's far too early to judge, as we don't have all the information. We know Al Quada (or however it's spelt) is behind it. We don't have an official body count, as the police haven't released one yet. I'm hearing rumours about various things, but it would be wrong to post them, since they're not verified.

From what I gather, the response is: it's finally happened, and we're dealing with it. Not much else to do at this stage.

The emergency services have done (and are doing) a fantastic job. As are the public - there's very little panic etc in London.

It's been said there are only 4 blasts now - two happened between stations, so the people came out of two seperate stations from one explosion .. hence why they thought there were more.

Ugh this is not good, hope you Brits are doing alright I'd hate to see anyone here lose there life on account of these damn terrorists.

I have to go, barely have enough time to read the whole story but I’ll post more later after I know the full story.

I wonder what the response will be after this attack, I really hope as well that whoever did this isn't coordinated enough to launch follow up attacks.
  • SnidelySnidely Join Date: 2003-02-04 Member: 13098Members
This is not the first terrorist attack we've ever had. The response will probably be to stick up two fingers. Then we may stick those two fingers through the eyeballs of the people behind this.

It's uplifting to hear that so many in the UK are taking this attack with such resolve. A true testament to the English Way.

Other than my heartfelt condolences, the only thing I can offer is the hope that you won't be sucked into to the inevitable talking heads' quest to find out "what you did to deserve this". With any luck, you won't have to tolerate such nonsense.

Ugh, we probably will. That's part of the media cycle; speculate, report, analyse, analise.

It's cool that you guys are posting condolences and comisserations. (I saw your blog entry by the way, Aegeri.) On a lot of boards, people would have posted stuff along the lines of "who cares", or "you deserve it".

It's not something anyone ever deserves, and anyone who would say so is riding on angst.

I do hope you don't go down the path we have over the last few years, with all the finger pointing and conspiracy theories and speculation. It burns my heart to the core thinking about all the people in my own country who would rather be sarcastic and biting than a decent human being.

    Indeed stay strong.

Don't fold like the Spanish and give the terrorists what they want.

I know this sounds kinds of trite from an American, but time like this call for national unity, band together and show the terrorists you won't yield.

I'm not worried though historically the Brits were never pushovers.

I see that no one posted a thread asking how anyone felt about the 17 women and children killed by a coalition attack on a village on Afghanistan this week.

Then again, ragheads aren't really people, are they?

Although I didn't see that in the news, I guess no-one figured that there were Afghanis on the boards. Of course people are more likely to be affected if it touches on their lives in any way (and hence the usual apathy towards Africa, which will resume once the feel-good factor of Live 8 wears off). It certainly doesn't mean that people here think Afghans aren't real people/don't matter.

Nobody has given much thought recently to the ongoing slaughter of people in Dafur either. The fact is that we've seen a considerable terrorist attack done for no reason other than to spread destruction and main/kill people in the process. Comparing this to a military action where the target was never civilians, although regrettable that such events happen, is quite irrelevant.

Jesus Christ, Gren. Mourn for your own people for at least 10 seconds. I'm sure somewhere there's a forum for people who have loved ones over in Afghanistan and that incident was posted.

We can't right all the wrongs of this world by ourselves, but we can show compasion for those directly related to ourselves.

That was an accident taking place in the middle of no where.

The bombing today was a calculated attack in a major western city center with the intent of causing terror.

In answer to your question, yes they are people, but not our people.

A common fallacy is the belief that you must either care for everyone, or you are allowed to care for no-one. I suggest that we elect Grendel for our official "mourn these people"-threadmaker so that he may make a thread for every single person dying on this planet.

I was going to make a post responding to Grendel, but for simplicity's sake I'll just say I agree with the past 5 posts. They seem to have all the bases covered.

Now, back on-topic: I offer my condolences, but that seems so hollow because I know there's nothing I can do to help.

I had no idea that had happened, you can't fault people for not knowing something that isn't heavily publicised.

So you hate people who care about people close to them more than people they can't relate to. As opposed to people who pretend to care about everyone. Because political correctness > honesty nowadays >_>

I'm a little shocked but I think this will only strengthen our resolve, I can't wait until they get caught and sent to prison. Imagine what will happen to them inside.
