<div class="IPBDescription">Awwwwsome!</div> <span style='color:red'><span style='font-size:21pt;line-height:100%'>WARNING SPOILERS!</span></span>

I saw WOTW today and all I have to say is... wow... Speilburg uses human fear in this movie. He uses the "I'm running for war as a young adult" era, and then this movie kind of looks like a WW2 scenario. When the machines go around searching for people, and when they find them they suck their blood out. This reminds me of a hollocaust. =/ Germans searching for the Jews and then slaughtering them.

But overall, this movie kicks butt! I give this movie a 10 of 10! Even though this is TOTALLY based on H G Wells' version back from 1898, which was about 240 pages, Speilburg brings out the horror, sorrow, sympathy out of the world and uses it to tell people that we don't need machines used by alien forces to bring down human kind. The only thing similar to do this would be man kind it self. We can wipe out the dominant species, but there will always be something to stop it in it's path. The destruction can and always will happen no matter what it's created by, how long it's been buried under the souls of people, it'll always come out and hunt us down.

If you have seen this movie, please post your thoughts and reactions. ^_^

EDIT

The ending was a blow.

Isn't WoTW just a ripoff of "Independence Day" ?

At least that's what a friend of me said.

Working in a movie theater, I notice how a decent percentage of the general populous are idiots.

I've heard somebody say on more than one occation that they killed the mothership and were able to take the tripods down because of that...

I thought the explanation at the end, that flat out says why the invaders died was clear rnough, but then, I guess some people are just morons. Probly like the guy who sayd WoTW was like Independence Day.

The only difference between Independence Day and War of the Worlds is that ID sucks.

WoTW was waaayyy overrated. Honestly, it wasn't that great.

    a. Robbie didnt survive.
    b. The ending was word by word that it was in the book.
    c. It was storming outside when I leave the theater.

I really enjoyed the movie, but I thought it could have been improved. He had the scenes of absolute terror down. 28 days later was the only movie before this that really made me feel like the world was ending. However, I really would have liked it if they got into more detail about how and why the aliens were doing what they were doing. I wanted to feel viscerally, that these things were beyond human intelligence. I wanted to see them doing everything in the absolutely most optimal fashion. If something didn't appear optimal, I wanted the characters to wonder what was going on, and then realise later that the reason for there actions was far more insidious than they had thought. They had a little bit of this in there, but not nearly enough.

Yeah, the movie did capture fear, I thought the segments showing the general populace trying to escape while being chased by the tripods would be pretty damn scary; it always seems that runnning away from a certain enemy is alot more frightening if your in a group...The part at the end about how the aliens died because of the paramecium in my opinion wasn't blatant enough, I can see how people will easily get confused if they don't know anything about biology (which they don't)

Unfortunately if you weren't born before a certain time, you end up
missing a whole **** load of things...but, not realizing that the book was
made way back then is almost like thinking LoTR was made in 2001

EDIT: Holy ****, you are right, some of these people are total
idiots, I walked out of the theatre hearing about how " omg, It is
a rip off of ID" and "The alien mothership was destroyed
    lololollol!1!!11"
  • BurncycleBurncycle Join Date: 2002-11-24 Member: 9759Members, NS1 Playtester
It's a good example of deus ex machina. Some people who didn't know about the book were understandably confused as to what happened at the end; the narration at the beginning and end were huge hints, which I guess were included for those people, but I guess some didn't get the idea.
