Seriously, I would've been happy with just the movie, but an OAV?!

    Hey now I can finally find out what the story is without playing the entire goddamn game. Yes! Go me!

    As usual, it involves amnesia. Not as much amnesia as in FFVIII, though.

    Amnesia is a great excuse for having the player to play through half of the game without having a freaking clue what is going on. That said, I didn't really have a clue what was going on by the END of FFX the first time around.

    It's about as corny as the whole story being a dream, though. I started playing the GBA Kingdom Hearts the other day, and I let out a loud sigh as the main character entered The Castle of Amnesia. Come on, guys. Be more inventive.

    hey, if you want to blame the amnesia creators, it's been around forever. The first game that I played on a console that featured amnesia as the key element was Super Mario Brothers 2. Anybody think of a popular, non-text-based adventure game that featured amnesia as the key plot element?

    Super Mario Bros 2 didn't have a plot beyond Mario and his posse (SHOUT OUT TO THA MARIO BROS CREW, HOMIES FOR LIFE) falling asleep and entering a dream world. It's not like Mario forgot who he was. He just lusted for the blood of Shy-Guys, and let's be honest - who doesn't?

    The first time I remember amnesia in a plot is FFVI, and I didn't mind that, but it came in pretty much every FF game after that. (Even in Chronicles.) There's a time when a certain plot device has to be put down, and this is that time.

    It was the main plot element of Planescape: Torment, but it fit in much better. Your character couldn't die, but everytime something happened that should have killed him, he lost more of his memory.

    It was also in Silent Hill 2, but it fit in better there as well, due to the dream-like state of the whole game. And that wasn't total amnesia, just memory supression.

    Sega Genesis <i>Flashback </i>was my first involving amnesia.. On an unrelated note, <i>Fade to Black </i>(PSX) sucked.

    Seriously, who wants to play a game that doesn't even have any gameplay in the first place?

    Link's Awakening is a dream, but since you see the Wind Fish/Marin flying above at the end, it wasn't all just a dream.

    Flashback was an awesome game. Man, I remember the first time I saw it...the graphics and animation were beautiful. It was a case of love at first sight.

    Out of this world > Flashback, at least in my opinion.

    I wonder if this OAV will be coming to the states. Or if Advent Children will come to the US at all for that matter...

    On a side note, the reason SMB2 was so freaking wierd when compared w/ the other SMB games is because it originally wasn't SMB2 at all. The Japanese SMB2 was really more like SMB1 but w/ more levels. Same graphics and everything. But the big N decided American audiences would want more, so they took a game called <a href='http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Doki_Doki_Panic' target='_blank'>Doki Doki Panic</a> and basically sprite-swapped the main characters for Mario characters, and there you go. You can read more about it <a href='http://www.classicgaming.com/tmk/smb2_madness.shtml' target='_blank'>here</a>.

    Star Tropics featured amnesia, did it not?

    Oh, and then there was Deja Vu, the RPG-ish detective type game...

    I got a bit more info about it.

    It will be bundled in the Final Fantasy : Advent Children Ultimate Edition DVD in Japan.

    The FF:AC Ultimate Edition DVD available in Japan will contain :

    - Cloud + Fenrir figurine
    - Final Order : Final Fantasy 7 OAV
    - The making of FF:AC
    - FF:AC Trailer (whee!)
    - FF:AC Venecia Film Festival...thingy....

    And a seperate set, called Advent Pieces : Limited will have :

    - Scripts to the movie? D: (Replicas of the scripts to be more specific)
    - FF:AC Key Holder (rare item I guess? Says something about a serial number of some sort)
    - FF:AC Mesh Cap <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo--> (and can)
    - FF:AC T-shirt
    - Final Fantasy : International Edition (yes they're rereleasing this...old game, with reprinted CD labels <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/confused-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->)

    Err yeah. I can't confirm the key holder thing though.
    And I'm not sure about the Ultimate Edition or Advent Pieces packaging for the US version.

    The US will be seeing a release 1 day prior to Japan (release in the US would be the 13th of September, 14th for Japan)

    EDIT : Fixed a critical error in post. Turns out there's a seperate set called Advent Pieces : Limited =\

    Don't get me wrong, Another World (dunno why the game was called Out Of This World in the USA, Another World is a perfectly good name) was a brilliant game, but it wasn't as refined as Flashback. Another World had a lot of frustrating moments. Remember that pod where you have to guess the right buttons? And tht vent? Stuff like that, you have to do more than once to get it right.

    I wish I got to play Another World 2. I didn't have an Amiga, a "friend" did; by the time AW2 was out, we had fallen out. The little asterisk asterisk asterisk asterisk.
