He pulled his military-issue winter jacket closer to his body to try and stop the brutal cold. He really didn't think it would help, but it was one of those instincts that told him that if he did it, he might feel warmer. Fat lot of good that did him. As he made his way over toward the bunker on the opposite side of the field, he wondered why in the hell he decided to go in to Special Forces. The special operations detachment of the TSA has him going all over the galaxy on special missions to seek out and destroy key Kaharaa strongholds and officers. Most of the time he was off on some out-of-the-way planet with some weird weather conditions, and this mission was no different. He reached the bunker on the opposite side of the field and saw his squad lingering outside of the security door. As he approached the group, one of his squad mates called out to him.

”Hey Janick! Get your **** over here!” the man said.

The guy approaching the group was called Janick Hentoss. He was a tall, muscular man who was the squad commander of the TSA Special Forces detachment. As he approached the group he could just make out the faces of the men standing there. To his left was Mark Rosenberg, a tough Jew with a face that could turn you to stone. Frank O’Malley was standing next to Mark Rosenberg. He was a hot-tempered Irishman who was always looking for a good fight. Next to Frank was one of the quad’s two female members, Kate Bradshaw. She was a tough, attractive woman with a personality to kill. Next to her was the other female squad member, Holley Gellison. Holly Gellison is famous among the squad (and throughout the army) for her temperament, which can be owed to her Irish and German heritage. An odd group indeed, but they have yet to fail at a assignment. As Janick approached the group he saw who called out his name: Frank O’Malley.

”Jesus H. Christ Frank, what the hell are we doing standing out here in this damned cold?” said Janick.

”The door seems to be jammed,” replied Frank.

”Well hurry the hell up and get it open!” yelled Janick.

”We’re trying man, but we just can’t get this stubborn son-of-a-monkey to…”

Frank was cut short but a sudden movement. Out of the corner of his eye, Janick saw the skulk. Before he could draw his pistol, it had already leaped on to Frank and proceeded to stab him several times in the torso with it’s razor-sharp claws. Kate was the first one to react. She drew her pistol and caused the skulk’s head to explode into several pieces by placing a bullet between it’s eyes.

”FRANK!” she screamed as she ran over and tried to resuscitate him with a med kit.

It was too late, Frank was already dead. None of them moved as they watched the crimson pool of blood around Frank’s corpse stain the pure, white snow beneath them. A million things were racing through Janick’s mid right now. Why didn’t any of them see that skulk, and how in the world did it take out a member of the TSA’s elite special forces? Whatever the answers, the squad knew that there was a mission that needed to be completed.

Good start so far with the basic groundwork for the characters. I see some potential in this piece. Just need to see more.

I felt that the introduction of the skulk was too abrupt and too fast. But that's just me. <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->
