For people who don't know,Terragen is a really good terrain generateing program that utalizes HDR lighting among other noticable traits,to generate photorealistic terrain in the form of mountains, plains, hills, oceans, lakes, streams, etc.

It is,of course, free to download and use,you can pay and register to gain access to even more and better features.Terragen 2 will cost money to buy,and naturally then registering is free...but terragen 2 is used by MANY Sci-Fi movies and shows to create their worlds. It's not too complicated, and it creates great effects, you can download it,for free, here

try and post some that you made,or have made in the past.If you can, please enlighten us of the name, quads, and minutes taken to render.

Below is one I made not too long ago,it has many faults I know, but Im still learning. It's the 2nd pic I fully rendered and saved.Didn't write down and info.
2nd terragen pic.

and below is another one I made,it's more recent and here's the info on it:

title:Artic stream:
283747 quads
3:07 minutes to render

I think my CPU and video card just got raped... Anyhow, here are a few that I did just to get a feel for the program.

CPU does it all, video card only has to show you what's happened.

use surface maps your advantage, they can really liven up a pic.

I suggest joining their yahoo user group so you can gain access to all the goodies insides, like custom surface maps, custom atmospheres, etc.

and FYI:to help add water to a pic. raise the water level

keep trying, pretty soon you'll be good,it's so simple even a CS noob could use it.

Made these a loooong while ago...prolly with an older version of the prog...the 2nd one is basically a remake of the first one, but less sucky

nice, but an idea is to try and use less detailed surface maps on big mountains because the details get all stretched out (anyone know a way to stop it from doing that?!) and looks funky. And did you set the clouds to 3d?They look kinda messed up and cut up,kinda an odd effect...I LIKE IT

use the pre-set surface maps and atmospheres to add some...well...atmosphere to the pic. look at the ones I made, nice and clear. But I've also done sunset pics. wher e the sun set really brings out the minute details of the terrain.Keep trying, and btw, water can REALLY add to a pic. the reflections can make anything look really good.
