Don't Underestimate The Lmg

and the tube is civilization!
don't underestimate it. ever.

the lmg may seem weak but it can EASILY take down a skulk, gorge or lerk with ease, you might need armor and hmg' when up against onos or fade but before that you don't.

oh and the tube is civilization!

Seems to be the one thing that Marines forget about is that LMGs do some decent damage early out. Unless you need an HMG to destroy all before you..or a Nade launcher for massive turrents use your main weapon, it's free and it's fast. The one thing i wonder is why the shotgunn costs 20 rp's. I mean, I'll drop my men a HMG for only 5 more. I would think 7 or 10...or so for a shotgun would be a little nicer...seems a small fraction of my men ever want it anyways.

I like to kit out some marines with a jetpack to go with their lmg and a welder so they can scout out areas fast with little risk to themselves cos of their speed and to seal off the annoying vents that give the aliens access to vital areas. Also I use these guys to create diversions and draw the enemy away from areas I want to assault, when a hive is under attact it doesn't tell the aliens by what just that it's under attack.

I was in a game last night, and it was the first time my troops had REALLY wanted jetpacks.

All I can say is, these guys were *good.*

I've never seen 4 guys wreck that much chaos with shotties and jetpacks.

It was a fun game because they managed to secure about 90% of the resource nodes for me, so whenever they wanted stuff, I was able to give it to them right away.

A skilled amrine with a lmg and jetpack can kill most of the aliens so easily. Aliens and alien chambers cannot hit a flying marine so easily if he ir she is constantly moving.

But then you have to worry about webbing...

Shotties are 20 simply because they have a huge damage potential, and are available early on. Given, I wouldn't mind if they dropped the price to 18 or 19, but even against Fades and Onos', the shotgun is a decent weapon. Not bad for something that's available out of an unupgraded Armory.

mmm...I suppose that is a good reason...makes more sense price wise with the increase for the HGM and Nade launchers. I really don't use them so I suppose I really couldn't comment on the damage though I have seen some pretty impressive shots by some marines. I do grant you that since the armory is upgraded and right out of the gates it's a good weapon...just...also the cost of a resource node so...expensive.

Decided to do a little bit of research on our friend the Shotgun. Don't ask why, my therapist is working on it.

All my stats are taken from this page, and checked against my own experience. I know that the manual has a few numbers wrong, but I think we get a good idea anyway.

Now, the manual say you have 10 pellets at 16 damage each. Let's assume that in any given shot, you'll hit with half those pellets due to spread. That's still 80 damage, enough to pop a non-Carpaced Skulk in one hit.

With only 2 levels in weapon upgrade, your damage per pellet goes up to 19. If you get up close and personal with a Fade, and assume 8 pellets hit per shot, that's 152 damage a hit (up from 128 if you don't have the upgrades). That'll take down a Fade in only 2 hits. Your only problem now is surviving the chambering animation while that close to a Fade.

Yeah the LMG is a decent weapon but I like the pistol. Pistol does more dmg per shot than th LMG but pistol just has a small clip. I always use my pistols first in a fight and then switch to my LMG. LMG is 10 dmg per shot, rapid fire, 50 per clip. Pistol is 20 dmg per shot semi-automatic, 10 per clip.

Honestly I never ask for HMGs. If I ever ask for a weapon it's a shotgun.

Oh sure, if I get given an HMG I'm not going to throw it away, but I'd much rather go with the lighter weapons.

I also prefer jetpacks to Heavy Armour. Maybe I'm strange.

    It's spelled 'spelled.'

"If you get up close and personal with a Fade, and assume 8 pellets hit per shot, that's 152 damage a hit (up from 128 if you don't have the upgrades). That'll take down a Fade in only 2 hits."

That isnt true. I've hit a fade with at least part of an entire chambering of shells, and it didnt die. Remember also, the reloading is ridiculously long. The gun is WAY too expensive. Maybe 15 is worth it, but even then I doubt it.

    No, "spelt" is acceptable;

It says it's past tense and past participle for spell, but then so is "spelled." Perhaps spelt is older and more archaic and people used spelled more as time went on, I don't know. I didn't even know spelt was proper english until just now.
