How Does One Use The Welder Effectively To Build?

I've heard that welders can help you build buildings faster. I'm not sure what technique or steps are required to do that exactly.....I tried a few times by first holding down fire on the building before holding the use key, but I'm not sure if I see a difference.

And is there a way to see my teamate's armor? I hate having to run around healing random people for random times or asking them if their armor needs healing.

I believe the welder is for repairing and not for building but I could be wrong. The one time I actually played marines all the way through we just had people collectively build things. The go a lot faster than.

Gorges can benefit from the same tactic.

Welding does not speed up building. And sorry, no way of displaying armor (yet).

If you decide to add a 3rd person armor display, how about an extra ring around the player's health ring?

Maybe for marines, it could be a double solid line, to look like layers of armor. For aliens, it could be represented by a ring of spikes around their health.

Best way to code it in would probably be to simply draw one sprite for armor and one for health. (Otherwise, you'd need 256 animation frames if it was one big sprite, instead of 2 groups of 16.)

    Just a suggestion.

i think it would be nice if you had a welder and a team mate had 40% or less armor an icon would apear over his head (maybe apear for 3 seconds and disapear for 5 or something, then reapear/disapear in that pattern) so you could tell who needed armor. Sometimes i go "anybody got a welder? i need some armor" and like 5 people spread all over the map go "i got one, where are you?" and it's hard to know exactly who it is that need the armor.

my tactic: I whip out my welder, and start welding air (or turrets, etc.). If a guy walks up to me, I weld him. IF not, I don't. That way, anyone smart enough to take advantage of my welding services lives, and anyone who doesn't.... deserves to die, by my math <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->.

That's the only way to do it. Just point the welder at a random teammate, and go at it. He'll probably say thanks and go finish killing that turret.

What's also fun (and a GREAT way to **obscenity** off aliens) is to constantly weld a marine wearing HA and carrying an HMG whilst he's attacking a hive.

Does the welder work on normal marine armor too? (Not power armor?)
